Install it where it rattles.

if you wanted to dynamat the entire trunk you'd have to remove the trunk liner and then lay the tar paper over the metal.

or just listen for rattles and put it there.

Dynamat is a sound deadener not rattle remover. I usually use a frequency sweep to locate rattles then a bunch of different materials to dampen them.

yea, dynamats purpose isnt to stop rattles, its to keep more sound in from escaping your trunk...

you have to find the rattles yourself, and put something (cotton, or dynamat) in between the peices rattling, then dynamat over everything... do you allready have the dynamat? if not i recommend edead

You'd put it in your trunk silly [rolleyes] .... just kidding

I took all my panels off in my old car and plastered the dynamat anywhere I could. Must have added about 50 lbs worth! The dynamat DID get rid of my outer door molding rattles!

I was under the impression that dynamat is suppose to prevent the sheet metal of the vehicle from resonating. Wouldnt' that mean that the doors/trunk wouldnt' shake and thus prevent exterior rattling?!

look for metal.... attach dynamat.

like everyone else said... its just a sound deadener... which helps because soundwaves or rather frequencies do not travel through the material as well. first place i would look toward would be the trunk lid.
my A4 rattles like a __________ in that area right by the license plate.

Amazing how every one of your posts starts with "this is probably a really stupid question but "

wanna locate vibrations.. get a hammer and start knocking the metal.

you will find the vibrating areas very quickly.

no im not joking.
