View Full Version : Replacing Fuel Injectors? Valves? Difficult?

I have read thread after thread saying that Audi's 2.0T engine is supposed to run "hard". Well, I simply cannot take that as an acceptable answer for a $40K+ vehicle. I tested a 2006 2.0T at the dealership and it sounded or felt nothing like mine. The only time I feel a vibration is when the car is sitting at idle. It currently idles at roughly 800 RPM. I just changed the spark plugs two days ago with a 0.028" gap using NSK plugs. I also checked each coil pack and these are all running fine.

The only other thing I could think of would be a bad fuel injector to one or more of the cylinders. I also thought it might be a valve not opening/closing properly. Are either of these difficult to replace? Do you guys think it could be one of these?

Also, the dealership had to replace my fuel pump a year or so ago. Could it be a bad fuel pump that is causing this problem?

Like I said, I cannot simply live with an "that is how our engines run" answer to my vehicle. I can take a video with a glass of water to show the vibrations. It sure seems like much more than "normal".

Also, my vehicle is a 2005.5, seems that I have had several problems with it. Got it is April of 2005, so basically one of the newer B7's.

Is changing out a valve hard? No offense, dood, but if you're asking, you probably shouldn't be doing it.

Let's just say that it's not easy.

Fuel injectors are a different story. They're rather straight forward and there are a few DIY's here, so do a search and check it out.

The fuel injectors are not easy, they are labor intensive because Audi decided to bury them under the intake manifold and many other objects. I had mine done at a shop and i watched the guy work and it took a few hours to get the car apart and then time to swap the injectors and then some time to get the car back together. Hope that helps.

I guess the question would be is could this be a source of the problem? Would it be as simple as running a cleaner through the injectors? Is there a way to test if an injector is bad without replacing them all?

I don't plan on replacing the valve on my own, but thought I would throw it out there as a possibility.

I'm not that experienced with Audi's yet, but I would think if you had a bad injector it would throw a code. How is the condition of your motor mounts?

I guess I'm missing what you're looking to remedy. What does running hard mean?

Running hard means that at idle, the steering wheel vibrates as well as the driver and passenger seats. It feels like you are in a diesel truck. Not smooth at all. Not to mention, it is not quite. Once you get above 1000 RMP's, the vibration seems to go away and it runs smooth. It is just when the vehicle is sitting at a very low RPM (800).

have you checked all your mounts yet?

I have an 06 but with a 05 build date. No such vibrations although my has that loud tick noise (desiel noise)

I have not checked my mounts. Where are the mounts? What could be wrong with the mounts?

Actually, after thinking about it, I don't think it could be the mounts. Reason being is that if the mounts were bad, then wouldn't the car shake while driving as well as sitting idle?

Rough idle could be caused by a cracked PCV as well. Is there any oil in your engine bay?

So I just got back from the dealer for my 55K service (basically oil change). I told them that my car was running rough. They told me that the reason was because I was not running a Tier 1 gas. The only Tier 1 gas that they say you can buy around here is Shell. They say that this is the main cause for my engine running rough. Also, they told me to run a fuel system cleaner through the system.

Also, told me the right engine mount was leaking and that it would need to eventually be replaced. They said that this is probably not the ultimate cause of the problem but could have an impact. Total cost to replace right mount including parts and labor is $399. This seemed very high to me.

Any thoughts?.

Tier 1 gas being the problem is bullshit. I use Shell most of the time, but have seen no noticeable difference with other "name brand" fuels. I have an 05.5 as well, just changed the spark plugs and oil this weekend (55k as well). The engine runs, and has always run, smoothly at idle. I was getting a bit of a hunt at idle at times before I switched the plugs, but now it sits like a trained dog at just under 750rpm. The only thing I can think of is do some data logs and compare them othr stock ones if you can find them? Maybe run some fuel cleaner thru the tank? You do use synthetic oil right? I dunno man, just shootin in the dark now [>_<]

I am going to run the fuel cleaner through the tank and see what that does. I just changed the plugs last week but didn't make a bit of difference. The dealership has always changed my oil and yes, they do use a synthetic.

I'll see if the fuel cleaner helps any.
