Mods currently, might help with decisions before the trip
For example, extra t clamps, incase something with the fmic or intake is needed..

Overall I plan to be traveling in April to NC from South Jersey. It will be my first long trip including around 8hrs 500 miles, 16hrs 1k miles roundtrip. My question is:
What should I have on my trip and what plans to maintain the car...

My thoughts were:
1. Oil Change/Oil Filter
2. Full Size Space (make sure it has air)
3. Low Profile Jack (tools as well incase I need to make a change)
4. Painters tape (Tape off entire front of the car for the trip there and home.) esp with the new front end.
5. Food, Drink, Full Tank of Gas
Update w/ input from others
6. Navi (already got the kenwood dnx7120, works great) +Music w/ ipod is good to go
7. Cleaning Supplies for car
8. CELL PHONE CHARGER + Car Charger
9.
10.

Help a brotha out, esp if you've done long trips like this.

$$$$$$ Make sure you have enough money!!!!!

You never know! Gas is gonna be more expensive in other places! If you need to buy food youll need it for that...and if anything happens to the car, damage, break down, tow , police!!! haha i dont know but thats a no brainer i guess... besides that u have most of it covered!

simple list:

money, blow, hookers (can be bought with money)

camera, AAA and more money.

Why the tape? I can see if you're going to a show or something, but you're gonna get rock chips just driving around town anyway, so if you don't tape it for DD, why for a trip?

But yeah, make sure you're good on oil, and your spare is inflated.

Must be a Canadian thing. I drove from Houston to Toronto and back last year -- some 4000 miles, pulling a popup (wasn't in the Audi, that's for sure) -- no issues, no damage. Only prep -- check all fluids, check tires, had oil change done prior.

For the OP -- the list sounds comprehensive, although I would make sure that I had AAA or some other roadside assistance. Whether or not the car can handle it depends on the inherent reliability of the car in the first place, and the mods that have been done and the impact on that reliability.

Good luck and have fun. [:)]

Yeah I had my car for about a week when I drove from Long Island,NY to NC 545 miles...This is what i brought with me and what I recommend. You need 1. A LOT of good music, 2. 5 HOUR ENERGY(that stuff is F'in awesome), 3. cell charger, 4. protein/Meal replacement bars, 5. water, 6.excellent radar detector, 7. check your fluids before you go and your all good. I did it in a straight shot only stopped once for gas and to stretch my legs.

It's looks like you've pretty much got everything covered. I'd suggest a Maglite for seeing at night if needed. I'd also bring an extra quart of oil, just in case you get the Min oil light. [up]

Good luck man, I'm driving from NY to Phoenix next month in my A4. I can't wait.

^^everyone who said to bring a spare engine, flares, power bars, lugs, trunk lid, and steering wheel need to chiiiiiiill. ITS A CAR, its supposed to be able to make these trips. especially ones from jersey to nc. i was stationed at ft. bragg, nc and drove home to north jersey 3 or 4 times. virginia cops are real d-bags so make sure you keep it +5 MAX!!!

you will need tunes and a vitamin water, NUFF SAID!!!

Maybe a can of fix-a-flat? Can never be too careful. In case you hit a stroke of bad luck and the spare goes, you can at least repair one. You are going on a decent trip but not cross country or anything. I think what you have so far is good.

I used to do long distance drives all the time, and just did one late last year from Seattle to Dallas, def need:

Fix-a-Flat, Flashlight, water, snacks, good sunglasses, radar detector, CASH, (I hate driving long distances in cars without tinted windows), CAMERA for the crazy shit that WILL happen, Monster Khaos (energy drinks!), first aid is good, Jacket (never know when its gonna get cold).

something everyone is overlooking: make sure you plan your root. listen to the highway advisory channel on the radio every hour or so to make sure you're not heading into any traffic jams. also make sure you're not heading into any major metropolitan areas during rush hour. if you plan to get to richmond around 9:30 in the morning you'll miss the morning rush there, and you'll beat the afternoon rush the rest of the way up the coast (D.C., Baltimore, Philly, etc.). you can bring all the supplies in the world but if you get stuck in traffic those supplies won't prevent the aggravation of going slow.

X2, 500 miles is the drive from me to El Paso, not even out of the state. I wouldn't hesitate to get in my Audi, right now, as is, and drive all the way there and back like it wasn't shit. I got up, no shit, at 5:30 AM last Sunday morning, drove 300 miles to south east Houston, around Houston all day, and back home again that night. That more than one way for his trip to NC. You know what my preparation was? Get in the and start it.

Seriously, living here, you drive min. 100 miles from major city to major city and in some cases more than 300 depending on where in the state you live. I used to drive home to Midland (320 miles) at the drop of a hat without thinking twice when I was in college. This kinda prep work everyone here is talking about is 1K plus miles one-way type of prep.[rolleyes]

Good luck with a V1 while driving through VA....they are illegal there and in D.C...they have radar detector detectors...they know when your detector is on...and you will get f'ed in the ass if they catch you with one. and being an out of towner and especially a "city boy" from NJ, expect no breaks.

the only safe alternative would be to look into the beltronics STI driver, beats the spectre III radar detector detector.

Have some sort of bluetooth thing, either a headset or wired into the car (or use speaker phone like I do lol...ghetto BT ftw). Stop every two hours, and walk around and stretch, you'll feel refreshed after. Once you get past DC keep it to <10mph over. Radar detectors are illegal in VA and DC, and the state troopers south of here (DC) are fairly strict about speeding. And if the shit hits the fan, I'm in DC, so don't hesitate to get in touch with me if you need it. Drive safely

You never know. I drove to houston all the time without much prep but it is still "safer" and more prepared should anything happen. Reminds me of an incident with a friend that had a modified exhaust on his truck. Lose the spare or lose the exhaust. He chose to lose the spare since he NEVER gets a flat. Sure enough, he caught a flat and had to run around the building talking to everyone to get a temporary "spare". Had to wait another two days to find another spare for himself and fix his "flat". Keep in mind he had huge tires on and a jacked up truck. With one little bitty spare on his truck.

daily driver, but goes to every show, took a couple 1st places this past yr, hope to add more this yr with the new front end and all...check out the threads and you decide if its show or daily... :P

No I get it, you've got a nice front end, but I don't see the point in having a nice front end if you're going to cover it up with blue tape when you drive. Just seems a little overboard to me. Why don't you just switch out the stock parts for the trip if it's that much of an issue? I'd seriously lawl if I saw a car driving down the road with blue painter's tape all over the front, flapping in the wind...

rent a mini-van, pack it full of extra soccer balls, get a case or two of water, a box of MRE's ("meals ready to eat" if you dont know military terms", 16 road flares, 2 spare tires, 4 reflective cones, 9 reflective triangles, snow pants + jacket, mittens, a large bag of dog food, fix-a-flat, a hooker in the trunk, cock pump, 10 gallons of extra fuel, SWEET STINKY CHEEBA (compliments to hyphy), a car cover and trailer to bring your A4. That should sum it all up.

ps. i also forget to mention to check the 10 day extended forecast, and traffic report
