Does anyone have any experiece with multiple exausts?
I'm looking for an exhaust replacement for my B7, but I DESPISE "upgraded" exaust sounds. In my earlier years I was hanging around and myself was a part of the import scene of the late 90's early 00's. Now that I'm older (not that old!), the sound doesn't appeal to me AT ALL.
I'm looking for the quietest aftermarket exhaust I can get my hands on. I am willing to sacrifice that extra 2whp.
Is going test pipe/stock exhaust a better option in this case?
Overall plans for performance upgrades will be an APR chip, FMIC/liquid to air IC, DV of some sort, and a K&N drop in (I also HATE the stupid AEM CAI sound).... but I'm torn on exhaust options.
I'm also concerned with efficiency over flashy intercooler setups. Who cares how big the core is if there's rediculous pressure drop/inefficiency due to piping problems.
Oh, and how much hp can the stock internals take? In Honda-land, anything over X whp upgrade, upgraded rods/studs become more of a necessity. I fully believe that at some point, the 2.0T motor would need beefed up internals.

techtonics 2.5" dp-back exhaust, uses borla mufflers and is very quiet. unobtrusive. Similar sound volume to that of a 350z or g35, but not as bad sounding. Smooths out the power band very nicely after a chip tune as well.

Milltek resonated, very quiet.

You might like the APR catback, I had that for a while and it looked awesome and was really quiet. It was hard to tell that there was even an aftermarket exhaust.

All owners can vouch for that.
If bragging rights is not your bag, I'd simply head down to your local muffler shop, have them research the fit, and order up a pair of Dynamax Super turbo (http://www.dynomax.com/ecat/pdfs/superturbo.pdf) mufflers. I would find out what diameter the stock exhaust is first, and ge them to up it by at least a half inch (I truly believe that in the turbo world, bigger is always better, but practicality and proximity to other items on the undercarriage need to be considered as well). A half inch gain should help offset the fact you didn't spend hard earned cash on mandrel bent tubing and keep the flow relatively unrestricted.
You should benefit in all areas while keeping the noise down. Avoid the coffee can tips as well..... Bet the whole thing will be under $500 and you should GAIN, not loose power. Practical performance can be had without breaking the bank or annoying the neighborhood.
If the final volume after that is still too high, have them toss a glasspack(or resonator, whichever is cheaper) further up stream.
Anyhow, that's me, and my old school thoughts on the topic... [;)]

Edit: Before some kid jumps on my butt, no, I do not have experience with this setup on an Audi. Its just my type of practical thinking I sometimes do, and the Audi is simply my 4th turbo vehicle.

I really don't understand why you want to get the quietest exhaust. I wanted to get an exhaust for the mean aggresive sound but everyones different. Getting a test pipe will make your car sound like a honda and pretty loud, but thats where the powers at. Im thinking you should get magnaflow mufflers and just nice stainless steel tips. Magnaflow is pretty quiet sounding but you can tell its aftermarket. Theres no reason to pay for the Milltek premium for a stock exhaust sound IMO.

Do a search. Tons of threads regarding all of your questions.
With stock K03, intake and exhaust equal more noise and some claim butt dyno improvement but chassis dyno runs people have done here have yet to prove any significant gains.
If you want power, cheap, and quiet, you don't need to spend $1k on an exhaust. Just buy a $69 test pipe and stick with your stock exhaust. Thats what I did and you can only hear an audible difference from the stock sound at WOT. Plus the test pipe is dyno proven gains.
As for your other planned mods, an IC will keep the power from being robbed, and a better DV will just keep you reliable, so you my as well get the upgraded OEM DV.
Unless your going BT, you don't need intakes, exhaust, etc. Most are for sound and show.
You don't need rods unless your going to venture in the 350awhp range and above.

the stasis exhaust is pretty quiet. my friends were surprised when i told them it was an aftermarket exhaust because they honestly thought it was stock. pretty big pipes too.

I did. And I even mentioned I did. The answers just weren't there for me.
I do also realize what an IC will do. If I like the improvements the APR chip gives, I may be interested in a big turbo upgrade, that depends on the missus.

Well the APR stage 3 boasts that, but they don't mention beefed up internals.

Umm, to allow air that has already seen the exhaust turbine get out of the back end of the car faster, thus decreasing turbo back pressure. Sound? Who gives 2 **** about sound. I'll be upgrading for power, because I enjoy it([wrench]), not so others can see what I've done. I also like my neighbors and want to avoid noise pollution at all costs. [confused] Probably the same reason I won't be putting wheels on anytime soon. I would rather put great rubber on there, braided brake lines, and awesome pads.
I digress before this turns into something completely off topic.
So Milltek's have the vote @ $1100 / pop huh?

I hear you and agree 100% I laugh when I hear these POS on the road making their bees-in-a-can sound while they can hardly get out of their own way. I like to be able to hit the gas and pass anything that is normally in front of me. Without any fuss -- almost the stealth effect.
As far as exhaust is concerned, I am not taking a perfectly good exhaust system off my car just for 15 more hp. When it gets a hole or whatever, then I will change it out.
Probably the same reason I won't be putting wheels on anytime soon. I would rather put great rubber on there, braided brake lines, and awesome pads.
Again, agreed. When my present tires wear out and I have to get new rubber, I will upgrade the tires and get new rims the same time.

That makes me wonder... wouldn't a test pipe and stock exhaust be better (flowing) than stock cat + aftermarket exhaust? I would think that with the silencers in the stock exhaust, the raspy-ness of having no cat wouldn't be as much of an issue.
I am aware of the climatological impact of having a test pipe. I do far worse in my day job than I could ever possible do with a car for the rest of my lifetime. Not too worried... it's better than a 1974 Dodge (insert any name here) even without a cat.

that was EXACTLY what the last question answered! perfect.
test pipe - quiet, but definite raspiness. like my old RC51 with no cat when closing the throttle at high rpm.
exhaust - louder maybe, but smooth sounding
both - almost too much.
But that's AWE, and as previously mentioned, AWE might be louder than Milltek. Hrmmm.

I like the way Stasis sounds also - very low/growling but I don't think as quiet as APR or Milltek

Remember that the TONE and the VOLUME of the exhaust are two completely different things guys. A deeper tone is good but if it is significantly LOUDER then it is just annoying. Just cut off your mufflers and get Magnaflows. By keeping the stock resonators you should have a more aggressive sound that doesnt get too overbearing. Sometimes I wish that was the route i took :(
