What kind of sub woofers have u had good experience with? I have good experience with basic infinity woofers and speakers. I have also heard some quality setups with rockford fosgate punch woofers.

Im looking to only need 1 sub woofer that will push 150-200 watts rms. Nothing crazy, i want some good quality sound and wide frequency range.

would not like to spend more then $100 on a single subwoofer.

Its going to be in a sealed box with about 150-175 watts pushed at it.

Not sure on the 12 or 10 inch, i want something more on the subtle side.

I listen to rock, rap, hip hop, reggae, pretty much all kinds of music.

I have 2 10" MTX Thunder's in my trunk (not much power: 450RMS but gets the job done. I want to replace MB Quartz to the interior speakers to complete my system).

Honestly, if you want to compliment the stock system then just get something afforable. That is what I did. I already had the box (bandpass) and simply replaced the speakers I bought off ebay for ~$50 for both after shipping brand new ($150-200 each retail). Bought a Jensen PWR920 to power tham and had it professionally installed. Most expensive part was the amplifier.

Or you can go the route of replacing all interior speaker and skipping the subwoofer altogether, which may be the better route.

Look at getting a JL (W1 or W2)
Also check out Alpine (Type S & Type R)

These subs are the beginning of their series and will pump, for a good price. Stay away from Fosgate unless its the P2's or up

Go to best buy and listen because you might only end up needing a single ten rather than a single 12'

construction of the box is the most important to the the maximum out of your sub. you can get a better sound with 10 than 12
if you under the budget, get some type R, Polk, i believe you can even ger JL w3.

any sub should work fine

sounds like a decent amount of power if you ask me.

ill check out some alpine stuff but have heard the type e's and am not a fan of how they sound at all.

Why should i stay away from fosgate's p1 series? I know they dont push as hard as the p2's and up(150 watts rms vs 250 watts rms) but dont really need a shit ton of power anyway, is the quality of the speaker actually better?

I would look into JL 10' W3 if I were you, coupled with a JL E1200 amplifier. The Amp is 200 watts RMS, and I;m not sure about the sub.

jl w3 handles around 500 watts rms, why would i need that if i only can provide around 175 watts rms power? wont it sound kinda shitty and underpowered?

thanks for the advice but i already have a amp in the mail, its an elemental design 4 ch that provides 65 watts per channel, 150-175 watts rms bridged. So im amping a set of speakers and bridging the other 2 for my sub.

I was looking at these subwoofers, the infinity i already owned in 10 and 12 inch and liked a lot. infinity rear speakers and soon front speakers btw. and please i really dont wanna here the bs statement that i need to spend over $100 on a subwoofer or its going to sound like shit.

i'd go for the first one. i had a JBL GTO 12" sub (which i'm pretty sure is just a rebranded version of the infinity one) and it hit pretty hard and had great sound quality. i separated the cone from the surround though cause i was pushing it with 450 watts RMS and it's just a 300 w sub...

anyways i got a kicker CVR after and i didn't sound as good. hit harder yes, but the sound quality was not there

yea im not looking for a sub woofer to pound really hard, i want it to be somewhat subtle but still hit clean. Im thinking its in between the infinity and the p1 fosgate.

i would go with an mtx sub for the price range and your style of music. i bought 1 a couple years ago for 55 bucks and another 10 bucks for the warranty from circuitcity. It sounded real good in a sealed box and was real smooth and precise. especially with the kickdrums from rock which most subs have trouble producing cleanly.

*If you want quality and a great range of sound go with: JL audio
~Pretty much the highest quality of subs you can get

*If you want a heavy punch and very good sound go with: Kicker(L5 or L7)
~Probably hardest hitting

*If your on a budget and want a pretty decent sub get: MTX audio
~I had a few of MTX subs...nice punch...sound is decent
~Good sub for the price...better then alot of other brands that i didn't mention

*If you want to spend a little more for something good get: Alpine
~Im running an Alpine 12" X-type in the back of my 300zx with a 650watt Infinity amp pushing it...sounds amazing...extremely clear...for a heavy hit you'll need more than 650watts threw this sub but it still raises your hair, shakes your car, you'll definitly feel it, and you won't be able to hear after a while lol. I listen to rock, rap, hiphop, techno, metal, anything will sound good.

*If your getting one sub like your saying you are go with a 12", ive had a few friends with a single 10" and its nothing. If you get a 12" pick up either a higher quality amp like a Rockford Fostage or get something cheaper that pushes more power like a Pioneer amp. A buddy of mine was pushing a 12" MTX sub in an enclosed box with a pioneer amp pushing about 750 watts...it sounded good but when it comes to subs and systems: Quality > Quanity

Whatever you choose tho, good luck with your setup...you'll never wanna own another car without a system.

rite now i have dual 12" subs, and i gotta tell you... its by far the best set up. you can either blast the hell outta your neighbors or lower the bass down for lower melody songs...

but either way you have massive control over the amount of bass out put with 2 12"s unlike 10"s

jl is good but way overpriced. they have good marketing thats why they can charge so much. i have a 12" alpine type r and it sounds great. fi audio is good, so is elemental designs. I would stay away from mainstream companies who have a good reputation already because they can offer a medeocre product at a high price because they have an established customer base. The up-and-comming companies are fighting for every customer they can get so they MUST offer above average products for less. just my 0.02.

i think you should throw some deeeee's on your audi, as well as cut the springs and throw sweet altezas and angle eyes on it. jk man, 2 12's is too much, or maybe i have just grown out of the whole super bass stage. even with hip hop my deck is set at -8 for the subwoofer

Quite a coincidence that you have experience with infinity stuff and sonic electronix. I bought this one: http://www.sonicelectronix.com/item_7823_Infinity+Kappa+Perfect+10d+VQ.html

I know it's over 100, but I'm so happy with it! I bought it for sound quality, not to rattle my brain and it fits the bill.

I would go for a kappa because if heard great things about those subs but can't supply efficient power and don't really need a whole lot of bass. I'm going with the REF 1052w which is a infinity 10in 250 watts rms or an elemental design 10 in that will go well with my bridged channels on my ED 4ch amp.

I'm a big fan of JL Audio. Have run many different setups, and have never had a problem with any of the subs. They are good value for great output. Their W0 or W1 series would be great for your budget.

In your price range, a 10" will have a fast response, giving a good, powerful 'punch', in say the 60-100Hz range. Below that, the sub will not give you as loud of a chest rumbling bass. The 12" will hit the lower frequencies louder, that rumbling bass, but it requires more power to get that sound. The 12" also doesn't typically have as 'clean' of a punch sound in the higher bass frequencies, especially if you run a ported/vented box.

It's really up to you. I personally think that if you listen to mostly rock, go with a 10, if mostly hiphop, house, etc, a 12" might be a better option.

Don't get a generic box. Make sure the box is within the proper volume requirements of the sub. You can fine-tune the sound of the sub by being in the upper/lower spec. limits of box volume, but outside those limits, the sub may sound weird at certain frequencies.

I know it's not in your budget, but if you want the best of both worlds, a high-end 10" will give you a hard higher bass frequency punch, and a loud lower bass frequency rumble. This does come from experience with many setups.

This is by far the best sounding sub I have ever heard:

I have 2 rockford p3 12" and love them. They are powered by a cliffdsign 1000w mono block amp. The subs are both 4 ohm and I have them down to 1 ohm. There in a ported box and sound great low and turned up. I have hit 145db with this setup. Only downside my trunk is unable to use now. No room.

I ran 2 x 12" in a ported box as well and it was insane. Rib cage would shake, hair would move, eyeballs would rattle! It was right around the 145dB mark as well.... it was fun to have... but it got old.... like me. [>_<] Downfall to that setup is that with a ported box, the higher bass frequencies just didn't have that tight clean punch that other music needed.

do you have a picture of how you have this mounted up? Im trying to get ideas for tomorrow when my sub comes in. Im thinking about just mounting it right behind the pass rear seat because i have my amp mounted on the back of that seat. I was thinking that if i went snowboarding i could lay the small driver seat down for skis/snowboards and so i could fit a 3rd passenger...

Far better than my old rattly honda, ford and chev. Good luck trying to eliminate all the rattles in those cars!... even with dyna-mat and adhesive foam.

The Audi is solid, even with over 140,000 miles, I don't have annoying buzzing or rattling.

well i love sound quality. But i used to have and old reference 12" in my pontiac firebird and loved it as well as all my friends. Before getting that my brother had a 10" in his old camaro and loved the sound of that as well. Im getting my sub/box today and im sure ill get it installed. Ill let you know what i think of it.

I have read many reviews online and many people agree that it is a very good sounding subwoofer that hits clean and can hit low frequencies. Many people liked the reference woofers from infinity more then jl and ect.

Can i really go wrong though? $50 for a subwoofer that iv had before and liked. Its gunnna be so much better than not having one!
