It's not cheaper, but I hook up my iPhone 3G via a iPhone adapter I bought that installs in the center armrest. So far I'm quite pleased with it.

<threadjack>Sly, does that also do music playback? Back when I was asking around for it, OEMpl.us didn't even have it in stock. Once they got it in stock, they still didn't know.</threadjack>

Unfortunately, you cannot play music through this connector. I'm sorry, I didn't know if you were looking for iPhone connectivity for phone use or ipod use. So I shared what information I had regarind hooking up an iPhone 3G since that's what I hooked up to my car. I have the iPod interface in the glove for music. Although the 2point5.com interface sounds more appealing to me now rather than having it installed in the glove. I don't recall, but the 2point5 interface may work with audio and iPhone 3G.
I don't think oempl.us keeps them in stock which is fine, it helps keep their prices down because they only order as they need to. I ordered mine through oempl.us. Took about a month to get.

Do you have to have bluetooth already to have the oempl.us dock work? I thought the decsription of the product mentioned that.

As mentioned on the oempl.us site for the dock:
Note:
- Audi phone preparation with bluetooth required

^^^ Ok I figured that's what that meant. [rolleyes] I guess going with FISCON is the better route for me since I don't have bluetooth but do have the nav.

Thanks for the link to the 2point5 site - I really like that set up for playing music and decided to go with that instead.

You're welcome. Glad it helped you find a solution you liked.
Post pics and a review if you have some time of the install and of the product. I'm interested to see what you think of it.

I have their interface in my car. Works great and looks awesome too. The dock in the ashtray almost looks OEM. I can post a pic of my iPhone docked in it later today when I'm not using said iPhone to post.

That would be great if you could do that - I'm still waiting for mine to arrive and was also wondering what's involved with install.

They installed it for me, so i'm not sure how difficult it is. Here is the pic.

^ That's nice how you can leave the phone in its case and have it plugged in. Do you ever have the phone come out of the cradle by accident when driving?

Not once. not even when I do 0-60 runs.

Does it access the music from Satellite Radio or the CD changer interface? Do you use it with RNS-E?

^ when purchasing you can pay extra to keep your Satellite - and only have to use the CD changer interface from what I understand.

I have Sirius and my iPod hook up. The iPod hookup goes through where the CD player would be.

That's cool to have that option.
i would rather keep the CD changer than the satellite though. I don't subscribe to SIRIUS. too expensive

So do you lose your regular CD player or just the changer feature. I dont give a crap about the changer but I need teh CD player!
The only thing I don't like about the ashtray dock is the controls are too low for me. I have mine currently installed with the proclip/dice combo:

The only disadvantage is that it is slightly in the way for tall people if someone is sitting behind them and they scoot the seat too far up... it touches their knee and if they are drunk they will bump it repeatedly.

will that i phone 3g connection in the arm rest work with the RNse nav head unit?

^ yes, if you have the factory bluetooth option already and only want something to make your iphone hands free. It does not play music.

I'm hoping to have the 2point5 dock by Saturday and will install then if I do have it. I'll take pics of the process and post if possible.

im not talking about the dock i mean putting the iphone in the arm rest in the connection that you buy for199 from that site listed above..as in will it display all that on the nav screen? if your answer was in fact for putting the phone in the arm rest and not the dock then sorry this would be redundant
