if you have a 2.5'' DP get a 2.5" TP to keep the flow even till it reaches the cat-back

I suppose of you're sure you'll never go bigger than a gtrs, a 2.5" tp will work just fine.

If you don't mind spending a little more money, get at least a 2.75" test pipe and replace the downpipe later on.

The only flaw with my milltek is the downpipe, and I'll be getting rid of it soon.

does any one make a 2.75 dp or do you got to get it custom made?

034 makes a 3'' DP, 2.75'' would probably have to be custom

I have installed both 2.5" and 3" TestPipes. 2.5" is much easier, b/c you can use a standard socket size, instead of decreasing the nut size.
3" test pipe comes with 14mm nuts as opposed to the 2.5" pipe that uses the stock sized 17mm nuts. It doesn't make a huge difference, it's just easier to install.

I've been using my 2.5" test pipe with my 2.5" downpipe for >20K miles now, and I'm very happy with it. I have installed other pipes and downpipes in customer cars before too.
If you don't want to spring the $$ for the 3" downpipe, I wouldn't buy the 3" test pipe. It wouldn't help enough to be worth it.

Note pic below. The gasket is actually a restriction point on a 3" pipe. This customer allowed me to match the gasket with the downpipe (~2.75") to help reduce the restriction. He had a Tip B5.5 Passat though, so he couldn't fit a 3" DP.

Note: that's the 034MS 3" test pipe below. Great piece, but IMHO not worth going to the 3" unless you get a matched DP or are going to an Elim turbo down the road.

my opinion is, since you will be going with a elim down the road, just dont spend any money and make your own test pipe. its free, free flowing, has an thick external casing for heat retention/shielding, oem stealth appearance, and bolts directly up to k03s as well as the elim. the disadvantages however, are as follows: time consuming/pita, illegalish, and cant revert easily to stock.

if you decide on a test pipe rather than a hfc, emissions are probably not an issue, and you can spend your money on a proper downpipe instead, and knock that out at the same time. (one of my dp bolts snapped and had to be replaced when i did it.)

i noticed max boost 500rpm earlier, after my cat ran away.

also be sure to get the angle block adapter for the b1s2 secondary 02 sensor. i forget who sells them but they are a great product made from billet ss, and i have never gotten a cat fault since. plus very easy install.

I'd agree, but more around ~400rpm.

My cat apparently ran away with my clutch material too [:(]. Torque spike from a K03/s & K04's kill clutches.

2.5in for K03/4
3in for BT

I bought an eBay test-pipe and it works perfect. 2.5", comes with gaskets, nuts and bolts. Pretty damn good quality for the ~$100 I spent. I think 3" is almost useless unless you want maximum flow with your BAT.

Went with the 2.5" too, good stuff

The outlets of most turbos are 3in, the best TP (forget who makes it) is a tapered design from 3in that tapers down to 2.5in into the DP. But, 2.5in is more then enough flow for A4s.
