View Full Version : My HID-Electrical Problem

I just installed my one piece Valeos with a DDM 55W 6000K kit and noticed a little problem today. On a cold start, when I flick the lights on, the radio automatically goes into safe mode. Once the lights are on and I unlock the radio again (know the code by heart now), I can keep turning them off/on with nothing happening. Anyone have this problem before, any solutions? I don't think the HID's are bad since they fire up right away.
Note- I am using the old 2 piece wiring harnesses in the new lights.

I was told something about not to use 55w. Our cars we should use 35watt.
Some one in here will know for sure.

you could run a relay to power the HID kit so that it dosent draw power from the tiny OEM wires

So you guys think it dosen't get enough power?
It does work perfectly all other times though.. And it only happens sometimes (mostly when I slam it the low beams on a second after I start the motor.

hid's dont use a lot of power after their already on and warmed up but when their first powered up they do draw a lot of power

I use a 50 watt kit with no issues. I'm using a 1 piece headlight and one piece connector though.

Might have a bad battery or a bad connection at the battery.

When you start the car, it drains the battery down pretty good... then when you fire the headlights, they're drawing probably around 30 amps combined (being they're aftermarket and 55 watt)... the voltage is dropping low enough so the radio thinks it was disconnected. To me, it sounds more like a loose battery terminal, but a weak battery will do that too.

I would stick with 35 watt HIDs in our cars, as the projectors are really small and the chrome reflective coating is very heat sensitive... over time the 55 watt kit will look dimmer than a 35 watt kit.

With a 55 watt kit, you should consider a relay harness... a 35 watt kit its not a worry as these cars are HID ready.
