View Full Version : Did some work on the rear trunk....

01-26-2009, 11:59 PM
So I had some damage from the PO on my rear trunk and i've been driving it around for ever... I did a little bondo work and painted this strip flat white... but I didnt like the contrast like I thought I would, so I layed flat black vinyl over it...

What do you all think?

Pics were taken @ the marina meet with my crappy digital camera.

i thought it looked cool. something different. maybe tint taillights too?

01-27-2009, 12:13 AM
yeah i thought it was cool too

01-27-2009, 12:19 AM
I like how it looks, but agree a tint could help.

not my style. I woulda tinted your front windows darker first... or maybe blacked out the rear emblem.

I think it looks great on a white car.

I'd get the tails lightly smoked though, so the flow better.

01-27-2009, 01:08 AM
eh im not really feeling it that much. someone up at my school had the same idea, but they drive a noggy which doesnt look that great to me either. definitely looks better on white though

01-27-2009, 01:27 AM
Keep it! It's different but I think it looks good. [up]

01-27-2009, 05:24 AM
Tint the tails... then it'll look more finished. Otherwise I like it, different.

01-27-2009, 05:34 AM
maybe if you tint the tails, black out the emblem and the trim around the trunk release button. I would like to see that done

01-27-2009, 05:34 AM
I think if the tails were tinted it would flow better.

Someone may consider this idea rice to place onto an Audi, but you can do some more to complete the theme. As others stated, tint the tails, smoked side markers, maybe black out the trunk rings, black gloss or matte wheels (w/maybe a white time attack), etc. Black vinly on the roof may be overkill. And I would not do that myself, but it would be a different look. I would just get that section of the trunk colormatched by a shop and resprayed. That little section could not be more than $200 (or you can have it done the Maaco Way).

Ahhh, nvmd. Just woke up and am a little delerious.

How do you post pics on here without using attachment?

01-27-2009, 07:43 AM
To insert an image, you just press the "Insert Image" button on top of the message box.

I really like the look! It looks different and people will notice it!
I'd say leave it, and maybe just tint the lights. Just dont overkill.

The light piece with the push button is going to go flat black as well.

Tinted tails. Hmm I think I can go with that..

At some point in time I'll be painting the trunk or getting a nice new trunk and put it back to stock color. But for the time being (actually for the marina meet) I wanted to have something back there aside from the damage...

Looks like C5? A6 stylee, I'd like it if it didn't set off my cop alarm

oh.. and I'm glad you specified it was the rear trunk, never would've figured that one out[>_<]

01-27-2009, 09:10 AM

If you color match the trunk handle and tinted tails it would look better :)

01-27-2009, 12:04 PM
i dig it! id wondered what this would look like, glad to see someone do it. i agree with the tinted tail but not super dark imo.

To insert an image, you just press the "Insert Image" button on top of the message box.

So it has to come from photo bucket or something like that right?

Or you can upload through this website.

See "Gallery" or go to "My photo gallery"

i like it..... if u dont want to smoke the entire tailights..... smoke the reverse part of the light

01-27-2009, 01:58 PM
No one wants to try photoshoping dark tails and black center piece?

01-27-2009, 02:00 PM
I like it, reminds me of mustangs. Its just something that the eye will have to get use to on a B5. Maby a photoshop of the tails tinted? And remember guys, while some may not care for this on white paint, i think it would be a good idea to imagine what it would look like on other colors. Great work man!

01-27-2009, 02:09 PM
I wouldn't tint the tails, I like it as it sits

01-27-2009, 03:19 PM
i like it.
it reminds me of the crown vics that cops drive around. If i were to see you in front of my i would slow down unitl i am close enough and figure out that its another Audi enthusiast.

01-27-2009, 03:36 PM
have you thought about blacking out the rings too or would that be too much?

01-27-2009, 03:44 PM
got another idea. maybe vinyl just the top of your trunk flat black as well[evilsmile]

01-27-2009, 03:48 PM
btw i like the button trim white. thats how mine is too

01-27-2009, 04:13 PM
have you thought about blacking out the rings too or would that be too much?

I really dont want to black out the rings.

01-27-2009, 04:16 PM
yea i was thinking about it...would be too much....i love the look though....good job

01-27-2009, 10:02 PM
Being honest, I really dont like it much. But that is my own opinion and its your car, do what makes you happy! =]

01-27-2009, 10:26 PM
Yeah i saw your car at the marina meet only as you were leaving and I thought that it looked pretty good. At least you tried something different. But tinting the tails would make the car flow better.

01-27-2009, 10:49 PM
No one wants to try photoshop? I cant do it....

Tinted tails and painted center section.

01-28-2009, 06:37 AM
