View Full Version : 15K HiD's TICKET!?!? ahhh

rAphb0y

so last week im driving home from work around 6:30pm and since im in the northeast it gets dark out around 4pm
as im driving down the road a lady cop pulls me over and gives me shit about my headlights "they're too bright, can't have purple/blue tint lights on ur vehicle"
i explain to her that i had already gotten a ticket for them and that im appealing it because the box that the hid's came in say DOT approved and that i was waiting on a court date to see what the judge says

so last night as im driving down the same road (coming back from work) she is sitting in the same spot and pulls me over again and wirtes me up for "improper aftermarket headlights" $35

now my question is .. are 15k hid's really illegal up in the northeast? or can i just appeal it again and win the case? i mean they're just headlights!!

I think the law says something like any HID system without and auto leveling system is/are illegal, but I would appeal it anyway, and argue that the actual lumens the higher temp HID kits put out are less than the standard 4300K, making them less bright than standard equipment ones. but you ay still get screwed for color.

Where are you getting stopped? State or Local PD?

I saw something in the recent C&D that PDs have ramped up their ticketing to help deal with budget cuts. For $35 I'd just pay it and move on.

You should have taken a picture in the same direction the car is facing or at least a little to the side, not directly at the car. That picture doesn't show much imo.

Anyway good luck, I'd never rock anything above 6k.

# 1. You dont have projectors so your blind the hell out of oncoming cars or vehicles ahead of you.

# 2. anything over ~8k isnt really for visibility, only looks.
# 3. You probably blinded the cop on the side of the road; hence why you were pulled over.

he can turn the screw but the glare will still be there.

I say buy some depos on eBay. Direct plug n play.... I mean plug n fit.
Equipment violations can be wavied if you fix the equipment issue.
If anything pop in a set of standard bulbs and install the HID's when you get projectors.

It may look cool to have those lights but without the proper setup your light beam is just going everywhere.

its a fairly straight forward install.

IMHO anything over 8000K's are dumb.

I know here in the states, if you have HID's, you legally have to have projector lenses. Sure it says "DOT" on the ballast, but that doesn't mean it's legit holmes.

... I don't have projectors either, but I don't get pulled over for my headlights.

No disrespect, but why have HID's @ 15k? [o_o]

You might as well stick a couple of candles in front of your car. [headbang]

Maximum should be 6000k, and even they're nowhere as good as OEM 4300k.
Running them without projectors, you deserve to get as many tickets as your glove compartment would hold, probably lose your license too.

so what is the BEST/ most desirable number (xxxxK) ? Is it 4300k or 6000k ?

i personally hate seeing bluish headlights driving down the road, i cant imagine having to deal with that. plus its rice city utah IMO

i saw these (http://www.vvme.com/product/detail-20023.html)

and wow... i didnt know you can get a full kit for $40.99

thats VERY reasonable... especially since in store prices for the good sylvanias (ultra?) are about the same ha.

so if i were to order that kit would you recommend with staying with the 4300k? or would it look better getting the 6000k....

theres also a 5000k as well (for $15 more) why is this one more expensive?

thanks and didnt mean to thread jack (i think he's had enough harassing though ha)

EDIT: i have and 00, so i DO have projectors right now, just want the HID's to take advantage!

kit is $40 PLUS SHIPPING, so about $70 total, still cheap, but VVMEs are either a hit or miss with the ballasts working upon arrival.

there probably is a way to make 15K pink bulbs look good, maybe a black car, with a pink roof, and pink wheels to match the pink bulbs, but if you wre going to go with the flow and get something everyone else likes (even if you dont), Get a DDM 55W 6K kit, its like 86 bucks shipped. I just put mine in and they are white as can be since the 55w ballast washes out the light a little. they look more like 5K bulbs that 6K which is what I wanted. but get projectors none the less.

or you can keep yours, do something different and find a way to make them look good.

I know man.. I was poking fun at the police.

Mine are 8000k in my avatar.. do they look bad? I actually like them and the light output compared to what I had before is incredible. I have them pretty low so I don't blind other drivers and I can still see the road more than fine. They are projectors though so maybe that makes a bigger difference than I realized.

Contrary to what some people may think HID's do NOT get brighter as you go up the color temperature scale.

Therefore 4300k is brighter than 6000k which is a lot brighter than 15000k.

Also if your HID's were true 15000k they should definitely be purple/pink.

Read this link for a lot of good info on HID's. (http://www.hidplanet.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=2080) (You might have to create an account but it is worth it, a ton of good information on this site.)
