Quick question - how is the engine idle when you first start the car controlled? Normally when I start the car cold the rpm's jump up to 1200 and sit there for a minute or two before dropping down. As it has gotten colder in this area I have had intermittent starting issues (cranking over and catching, then dying out but starting the next time) and now I have noticed that in sub-freezing weather that about 1/2 the time the rpm's don't go up to 1200 even when the car is first started.
Is that normal, and what normally determines that?

Yeah, I was in for service over the summer and they made sure I was current on all the reflashes. Guess I'll give them a call and have it looked at...

my car doesn't run at 1200 in the cold mornings either, but it has not caused any issues so I have not really worried about it. Can the dealer still give you a reflash for that even if you have a stage 1 flash.

Just got my b7 last week and it does this weird cold start thing intermittently.
Did the flash solve your problem?
Anyone know where to get the TSB's on this?

b7s are bitchy about the cold. mine cranks for a while, then turns over, then dies, then keeps cranking, then starts. its absurd. my 96 jeep cherokee with 187,000 miles starts faster.

Have you guys heard a grinding noise when your car finally starts after being started for the first time in a while? Is that bad?

Maybe you should give the gnomes that live in your starting system some hot chocolate when it is cold out. They may appreciate it and stop messing with you. Mine seem to like it quite a bit, but don't put alcohol in it or they'll drain your battery and puke all over your engine bay. Little bastards.
