Pad Question with Stasis/Alcons

Looking for feedback from people who have a fair amount of experience with the Alcons on the track.

I have a B7 A4 with the 14.5" set up, and have been running the SBS track and race pad compounds for the racetrack.

Just wondering what pads other people are using and feedback on them.

you can get what ever carbotech compound you want. I am running the bobcats for street in the winter and ordered a set of XP8's for track use next year. Ferrodo also has the 2500 & 3000 compounds. Both can be had from raceshopper.com

I don't think Cabotech makes pads for the Alcon Mono 4 calipers. Ferrodo does though. Have u had any experience with the Ferrodo's that u can share with me?

When i talked to Carbotech back in september when i ordered my current pads they informed me that they can make pads for the Alcon calipers since i am thinking about getting Alcons for our other car. I was told in a worse case senerio if they didn't have the pad size in stock you can provide them the part # for the SBS pads they will make you a set.


As for the Ferrodo's i ran them this past year. the 2500's for the street and some road course days. I ran the 3000's on the track too, but for our local road course the 2500's were fine. The 2500's have a very wide working temp range. Little dusty but great overall pads. i really liked not changing pads back and forth for track days.

Good to hear Mike! So have you personally had experience on the track with the Alcon's and various pad combinations? I am interested in trying something other than the SBS stuff just for comparison.

Although I was told by Stasis that it is not good to change pad manufacturers once the rotors have been subjected to track abuse with a particular brand of pad. I have never heard this before. Care to comment on this?

Change pad compounds can sometimes make it difficult to bed the pads in properly. Usually people recommend sticking with the same family of pads when changing pads.
Ceramics don't like to mix with organics, etc.

Ferodo DS2500/street and DS3000/track would be other options suggested by STaSIS and ourselves. However, the DS2500's are a bit noisier than the Pro-Tracks so at least our clients wouldn't want them for street.

What I like about the Pro-Tracks is that they are an awesome all around pad if you don't want to change out pads for the track. They stop almost as good as the Pro-Race, are more linear, and are quieter and work well cold. The drawback to them is that they dust like crazy on the street, wear super fast on street and track, and after you heat them up to track temps, the metal shim on the backplate falls off and they squeak like hell on the street.

The Pro-Race on the track initially grabs as good the Pro-Tracks, then right at the end of the braking, they grab insane and make this crazy metal grinding sound. This is good because if you brake too late, they seem to "save you" from going off the track at the last second. But, they are not linear at all, making them hard to modulate. That metal grinding sound is probably metal actually grinding off of the rotors cuz there is a lot of metal shavings in the brake dust thats all over my track wheels. Other drawbacks are that they only seem to last about 2 1/2 track days, they chunk out and wear unevenly, and are really hard on the rotors.

So I guess my "perfect world" pad for the track would be one that stops as good or better as the Pro-Race does, but with all the traits of the Pro-Tracks (linear, easier on rotors, even wear, etc). But especially I'd like to find a pad that can do all or most of this and last longer than 2 1/2 track days. But this new brand must also have a street pad so I can change them out without mixing different brands.

I was told by a couple of guys at Stasis is that they prefer the SBS stuff over the Ferodo's. Thats the only reason why I've been reluctant to try the Ferodos. Plus if I go Ferodo I have to run the 2500 on the street, and I'm kinda over a dusty, noisy hybrid pad at the moment for the street. Thats why I switched to the SBS Pro-Tourings on the street and switch out to Pro-Race for the track.

I'm not nessaserally complaining about the SBS pads, its just that I only have been driving on the track for a couple of years, and I've only ever used the SBS stuff on the track. So I don't have anything to compare them to. But I do know what I would like to change about them. I'm just not sure if what I'm asking for is even feasible in a race pad??

They are much less noisy than the SBS at low speeds and the brake dust from the DS2500 is greater, but cleans much easier than the SBS.

There is zero comparison on braking power, the DS2500 owns the SBS.

I have the 370mm B6 Motorsport kit up front and the 305mm rear kit too.
