sorry, i tried a search but didn't get anything. Has anyone done this if so is there a write up on it? My tranny might be taking a crap on me and thought this might be an option for me.

not an easy option... typically, the advice is to just buy a manual car.

sell the car and get a manual, its a lot easier

If your tranny IS going to "take a crap on you" and you need to swap it anyway, it might be worth looking into an S4 tiptronic tranny. I hear they are much nicer and their crap doesn't stink as bad. Also, they don't even crap as much!! haha, JK. But seriously, I was thinking about doing it, and from what I can tell it is a fairly straight forward bolt up (much more so than the auto to manual swap at least). FWIW, I found quite a few of the S4 trannys with about 40k miles on them for about $2500 shipped. PM me and I can give you some people to contact to do some checking.

to go manual you'd need way too much...........tranny, clutch/FW, pedal assembly, TCU, new engine harness, and a whole lot more........

actually why bother swapping in a S4 tip? I'm not sure they are all that better at the moment. just have the stock one rebuilt or get a remanufactured one for a a4

An S4 swap isn't easy either. Getting it fixed or a different car is the best option.

whats the difficulty in doing an A4 to S4 tip swap? I was thinking of doing this so I could get the GT28RS turbo upgrade.
(I know, but I'm attached)

It's been well known that to do an S4 manual swap into an A4 the rear is needed aswell. I can only think the sale would go for a A4 aswell.

i'm aware of the labor involved. Just weighing options, but the S4 Tip would also be ideal. Hmmmm what to do.

Yeah, I know the S4 manual has to be swapped with the rear diff, but I don't know if the Auto gearbox needs to be swapped with its respective rear diff also, I would love to find out for sure.

Interesting, a friend of mine has bulletproofed his tranny through them and I have heard no complaints from him other than the price

I know a guy who has their tranny on a 500hp RX7 and it shifts harder and faster then any manyal........it's rediculous for an auto. It cost him like 4k though.

I've not heard of bad things from them. Please elaborate?

Level 10's stuff is pricey but you gotta pay to play. I am working directly with ZF themselves to try and get beefer parts for my auto

Darkstar may be on to something, I like the idea of S8 parts, what about RS6 parts?? Probably too pricey, but I am just throwing out ideas...

yea he is only on to something because I told him about it. that was my orginal idea but the parts are expensiveand difficult to find without having the model numbers and serial number off a S8 transmission.

yes i will be able to cross refrence part numbers I have the entire ZF technical information and manuals, spare parts catalogs...all the literature they have on the 5HP19FLA (A4/S4) and the 5HP30FLA (the A8/S8 trans)

ok here is the deal. there is no difference between the S4 tip and A4 tip. they are exactly the same transmissions. Now there is no more wondering why a S4 tip can't handle even handle a chip. I just got off the phone with ZF and I have all the information and will see about posting a tech artical for us after I complile it and make some sence of all the numbers and such. if any of you have questions please PM me

If you're serious you'd better find a more definitive source than asking here.
