Hello.
I have already a post about my A4B8 on this forum. But thought I could post some info about my other project. This is going to be a bit more expensive i think. Because I unfortunatly crashed my 200 last winter, and is going to have a rebuild now, with other chassi and some upgrades both on engine and the rest of the car.

I don't have so much pictures from the car before the crash, because I bought it tuned and upgraded. But I didn't take so much pictures. I'm very sad about that now :( But here are some of the pics I have from the original car:

And then, I unfortunatly lost controll on wet snow/rain and hit a "lightpole"

This ended up with a car that hadd to be condemned. But I took out all the good parts, such as engine, interior and everything under the car ;)

http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y41/missionbora/project-typ44/IMG_2771.jpg

Also took the top of the engine. Delivered this to a firm that is going to put on some bigger valves, and make bigger seats for the valves. Also going to change the springs and retainers :)

I ordered a rollcage for tha car, that is done. just need to pick it up.

Then I have to buy a new fuelline. such as fuelcell, pump, filters and hoses. Going to run the car only on E85 next summer.

What do you people think of this project? Long way to go now, but hoping to have it ready around mai/june :)

Koselowiec: Thank you :) Hope the new car will look almost like the old one. But with some improvments. ;)

Marios C4: The turbo is an KKK KX600 that gives the car max 600hp on ordinary fuel. Will use the same turbo this summer, but hope to get a little more with e85 (But not suri if I make that)
Next winter I will upgrade to 2,5 or 2,6 and a bigger turbo :) Will also try to make the car as light as possible, with two bucket seats and not much interior.

Thank you. It is the original that is rebuild. Not så fine finish on it, but think I will put some paint on it, will make it look better. Many welders can do this for you if they weld aluminum :)

Got the parts for my rollcage. Hadd to try it in the car, because in Norway it is not possible to buy prebuild rollcages, so I hadd to measure the car and order loose parts. Don't look to bad. Not much work has to be done to get this cage to fit :)

Just need to clean up in the car now, and start welding. Very cold in norway at the time, and my garage isn't very warm. But hope to do some things during the holidays now.

Here are some pictures of the parts for the cage :) as you can see, I have to remove the sunroof. Will do that during this week, when I get home to the car.

Thank you. Will try to get the car from the ground this week, and remove the fueltank and everything under the car.

Also have to start sandblast the parts under the car and get some paint on them :)

Talked with the person who is going to MAP my car. He recommended me to buy new coils fram A4 1,8T and use them.
Also have ordered bushings for the front in Aluminium, triggerwheel and sensor that fit my engine. And when xmas holliday is over, I will order engine and transmission mounts in alu/polyurethane.

Bad news about this car. Will take longer time to build than I thought. Bacause it cost very much. And the USD is high now, and that meens everything is even more expensive.

But the car will be ready. Even if it takes more time :)

Will try to gather the parts I need. Coilovers, fuelcell, pumps and stuff like that.

Ehh. What is Determination? (Sorry bad English[:)])

I like the Wilwoods very good. Haven't tested them on a track yet.
But there is one problem with them. They are not streetlegal. Because they don't have "dustcovers/gasket" on the pistons. Not recommended for winter-use.

This project is a bit on hold right now. But it will start during the spring.
Been searching a bit for parts and stuff I need. :)
Also planing to put the cooling in the trunk. With a alu radiator and fan.

Have you thought of mounting the radiator horizontally in the engine bay? It opens up a lot of free space underneath to play with, and increases airflow into the radiator itself.

xileh
03-14-2009, 11:49 AM
Jim@STaSIS: Okay [:)]
Yes, I have that. But it goes slowly. But I rather use 6months extra time and get a car that works, than build it in to short time and don't be satisfied :)

Tactic12: I have thought of this. But many I have talked with say that putting the cooling in the trunk is waste of money and time. So I'm unsure of what to do. I had trouble getting enough cooling in the radiator before. Because I have to put the oilcoolers in front of it.

Will a radiator in alu that is twice as thick as the original cool better, or is cooling in the trunk the best?

Hold on there cowboy, that's not what I said/meant.

I'll try again, and do my best to remember English is not your native language.

When I say mount the radiator horizontally (<--------> not, vertically or up and down) I mean inside the engine bay. On the driver's side, so it's just below the hood. Would need to relocate the radiator plumbing and fabricate new mounts and maybe even the whole radiator too.

A mechanic of mine suggested it and made some good points toward doing so. If you put some vents in the hood it'll also increase the cooling and airflow to the radiator, as well as open up all the space below the radiator for whatever you want (A/C, etc).

Just a thought.

Thats an amazing beast of a car! I'd like to see you paint it black and keep it a "sleeper" and sneak up on anything on the road and blow right past it. Nothing like seeing far away headlights come up fast behind you and blow right past to put the fear of God into anyone. And with the older sedan body of your 100, it makes it that much more amazing! maxh2o: Thanks. Guess I have to dissaboint you on the color of this one. Since it is a rebuild of the old one, I will paint it like the original one. This car will be mostly used on tracks. Because it is very difficult(impossible) to get license plates on a car with rollcage and stuff like that in Norway :(

Doctor: Thank you.

Have done some small work on the car now. Waiting for my engine top to return from a workshop. been adjusting my valves (rebuild to mechanical) and polished the tops inside.
Also placed a order on a accusump.
Will try to assemble the engine soon, and then I can start on the bodywork.

Haven't done anything here for a while. The project stopped, due to that I found a huge amount of rust on my car, and then I need a new car to build on again. Found a couple of poor Audi V8's that I'm considering. This car got a stronger chassis, and will work better on a track. Guess I will try to find some pictures of the V8 DTM car and use that as inspiration :)

Hoping to get a V8 in my garage next week or something. Then the fun can begin again :)

Have done some work on it. New valves, more flow. I also got some cat cams on it, and mechanical "valve lifters"
It also have gotten a "service" :)

Nice!

Its good to see other people with t44's making big power. I have mine on VEMS engine management and am just beginning to put all of my parts on the car.

I have some questions for you...

Where are you getting the aluminum bushings for the front end?

What are the specs for the camshafts?

Here's my turbo along with another one I might use later on :)

The bushings for the frontend I'm going to make myself. (Or a friend is going to make them for me)

Don't remember the specs on the camshafts now. But there are on this side:
http://catcams.co.uk/acatalog/Audi_80_90__100_coup__A6_RS2__all_quattro___2.2L_2 0v.html
Can check the numbers when I'm home from work later today :) My camshaft is around the middle. Not the highest lifts, but better then original :) One of them that says Mech first :)

How much power are you planning to get? To you have a thread about your car?

Oh OK nice, so you are doing solid lifter head? (Mech) I'm not sure yet whether I want to do hydro and rev to 8500 or solid and rev to 9-10k. Solid lifters are just a little maintenance heavy and require a lot of machining. I enjoy reving to 8k on a stock head for now though :)

I could probably make the bushings myself too, but if you have a CAD file that I can use to make them with or some drawing or anything that would be awesome. I just don't have the time to take my car apart and make them and then put it all back together. Its my daily driver. I may consider delrin too. OR I'd probably be willing to pay for a set if you want to make two sets!

I do indeed have a project thread for my car. Its rather lengthy though. Its 75 pages at the moment. The basics are that I've done Porsche brakes, custom coilover setup that I made, VEMS, and about to put the Holset turbo on the car in the next week or so. I'm shooting for 300awhp on stock motor (maybe 350 if I'm feeling lucky), 500awhp on built engine with the Holset still on, and then finally replace with a 67mm or so turbo and the final goal is 7-800hp. We'll see where it goes. I've got other projects too but this one is first priority.

You should make a post on Motorgeek. I'd say its the most performance-oriented old audi website for America.

If you need any info on what parts to get for the coilovers let me know. I have everything you could need and its pretty cheap.

Yes. The car will mostly be used on track, so that's why I wanted Mech header. Also I will start using my KKK KX600 and that turbo is a bit late compered to newer ones. And then I will need to rev a bit high :)

I haven't made any bushings yet. But I have almost a spare car. So I will use those parts for measuring. I will talk with my friend that got the equipment, if he will make drawings,or how he does it. I guess I will make alu or something for my subframe, and then use delrin for most of the rest in the car. And 034 motorsport track bushings for engine and gearbox.

I like your goels. A bit similar to me. Start with 600hp in the engine now first. But hope for more later. Will run the car on Ethanol and that gives me more possabilites to get more power easier :)
I will look at your thread. I have seen pictures of your car before, and it look very beatiful:)
I will check out motorgeek.

Yes, info about the coilovers would be great. I have seen on 2bennet. Also a company here in my town build custom bilstein coilovers, but they will cost about 4000USD, and that is guite much I think.

OK here is a link to everything you should need to know.

http://vw-rings.com/viewtopic.php?f=21&t=2602&sid=a9e52e7ba5212d7a2415d95f71c07a7a

basically you get bilstein sports from shox.com for ~$520 shipped, then 2.5" coil springs of your choice for anywhere from $60 to $270 depending on if you order custom or get good deals on used ones, then about $180 worth of coilover sleeves, collars, etc. from A1racing.com. Its all outlined in the thread above. The only thing it needs after that is some more suspension travel. I'm working on a new upper strut mount that will take care of that.

Thanks for the compliments on my car. Its much appreciated :) I love the color scheme on your old car. Hope you do something similar with the new one!

I'm going to run pump gas 93 octane for as much power as I can and then maybe switch over to race fuel whenever I really want to make the big power. I don't think I'll be running around with full power all the time. I'd do E85, but there is almost nowhere to get it around here. I definitely want a set of cams with some seriously high lift. I love the sound of a nice, lopey cam. Gives is a mean sound.

Looking forward to seeing more updates here! Keep an eye on my thread because everything is going to start happening very soon.

Guess I will make my own coilovers like you did. But first I have to find a car, and start building. Good to know what weight I end up on before I order springs [:)]
How is your suspension setup? I'm going to use my car only on the track, so I want it as stiff and much handling as possible. won't need any comfort [:p]

Ain't many places to get E85 here. But there is one gas station close to my work that sells this. Guess I just have to get a big can that I can fill up when I'm going to the track [cool]
My cams don't got that high lift, it runs very nice on idle. But they got higher lift than original. Sorry, that I forgot to check what cams I have. But will to this next time I'm at my garage :)

Right now I'm going to call on a Audi V8 that I might buy for to use as body. Reason I want V8 is wider fenders and stiffer Z frame. And I think the V8 is very similar to the typ44.

loxxrider
06-23-2010, 02:38 PM
Yes, the V8 actually is a type 44 so anything you do to a V8 besides suspension will carry over to a 200 20v. They are both type 44's.

I love the suspension setup. I have 450 in front and 500 in the rear and its pretty stiff, but the ride is nice because of the bilsteins. If you really want to get crazy with it you could do Koni struts but I don't have a parts list for that. Anything over 500lb springs will require either revalved Bilsteins or some Konis. You can get a used set of Bilsteins and send them to Bilstein to get revalved for something like $80 a piece.

I'd imagine for a track car you might want around 600lb springs. Its hard to say what you'll like though.

Thanks for the help. Guess I will aske more when I'm ready to build the coilovers :)

Thank you :)

It seems like I won't use a V8 after all. They are much more heavier than the ordinary typ44 due to double floor and stuff like that. So now I have bought a ordinary typ44 Audi 100 with flat fenders. Will pick it up as fast as I have free from work. Much overtime working this month due to holly day.
I will build V8 rear fenders on this car and use the V8 rear bumper, and try with an 20vt 200 front bumper to see how that looks together :)

Not so many updates in this thread. Much canges in my project.

I changed the thread to be about all my cars now.

The "tricolor" will be a avant in stead. Working on that car right now:

Also have an Audi 100 10vt sedan quattro:

Shit, how did this happen . . .Due to power, or an accident of some kind ?

Maybe both power and a bit bad driving.

Got a late turn in to a corner, and hit the clutch to make the car oversteer with the diff in. Then the axle broke:(

Think I got a short clip when this happened. But you don't se it on the video.

I got my hands on a original axle today. But later i might be looking for stronger axles.

My first priority now will be to get the avant finished. Then the s2 will get a makeover i think :)

That rain dirfting video was interesting. What was your technique for getting the rear out? Was it throwing the weight with throttle, or some clutch kicks?

That was my first time testing the car on wet track, so I my technique was not that good. I used the rear diff on. And sometimes used the clutch a bit, but without to much rev.
The car was not working 100%, so I had trouble getting the rear out with just the throttle. (My mass flow meter was defect)

But lately I found out it is better to use the weight a bit. Not so much wearing on the clutch and axles :)

Now it is time for winter here in Norway. No more track days for untill may :(

But hopfully we get some nice days with driving on Ice :) Don't know if i will use the s2 or 100 tq.

Some of my choises for the avant coilovers:

2bennett
Kit with coilovers rear ready to install. And have to build in front. Every part is included. Yellow koni shox. And caster/camber plates in front for good adjustment in wheel angles.
Price is about 2100 usd

kw
Have to send the front struts to them. Regular kw v1 coilovers with tuv papers.
About 1300usd

Quattromanufactur
Have to send the front struts to them.
Coils from eibach or bilstein
Yellow koni shox, shortened 4 cm and with custom damping rate.
About 2200 usd

Build self
Problem is the upper strut mount.
Price will vary, depending on what coils and shox i choose. But I guess the price will be about the same as kw.

What do you think? The car will be used almost only on track.

Thank you :)

Two very poor pics from the sedan after lowering. Dark and phone is a very bad combination when taking picture. Will bring my camera and take som pics during the daylight some day soon when I have washed the car.
Still think the car is very high on the rear. Anyone knows why? It is 4cm lower than before lowering, but still very high :o But the car got very much better to drive after lowering. Handles more well, and a bit stiffer :)

Also still got a "knocking" sound when I drive. Have changed the wheel bearing in front, and the outer joints.
Might have a look on the exhaust and axle to se if there is something wrong there.

Tried to flip the lower spring seat this weekend, but it was not possible to get it off the damper. No problem to move it, but the damper got some kind of ring where the thicker part of the damper ends, and the spring seat did not fit over this.

Also test fitted some wheels on the S2. Theese are going to be street wheels, while the compomotive rims will get some toyo r888 or something. Also mounted original brakes in front, to get the winter tires on, and to get to use rally ice wheels for the icetrack drinving later this winter :) The car is raised a bit on the coilovers now, but good to have a high car in the snow :)

You also see the wrong tire size on the comp wheels on this picture, but that is due to offset15 on the comp wheels.

Now the subframe in front is off and is ready to get coilovers, new bushings, changed brakes and some paint. Anyone know if it is possible to buy Subframe Bushing in billett aluminium some place?

Hi,

I really like your projects. Any updates on the avant? What are the specs on your S2? Thanks!

Hi,

Thank you :)

The avant is just standing there. The 2,2 engine I put in was not so good. I took it from a crashed car, and replaced some parts. But I think there is some internal damage in the engine. The plan for the avant now, is to get a 2,3 original engine and put in it.

The S2 is running a Turbonetics Super E50/KKK8
I think it got to little hp, but it is a very nice setup to learn how to drive on track.

Do you mean levelcontroll on the avant? Yes I have that, but I think it is broken. It is very low on the rear compared to the front. Think I might put on some 50-30 springs that I have :)

The coilovers are bought from 2bennett.

Still working on the V8, but it takes time. Hadd some other thing to work on, like preparing my snowmobile for the winter and stuff like that :)
