Well the other day I went down to the dealership to ask them what parts i would need to fit a s4 bumper on my a4, and one thing led to another and i ended up talking to a salesperson and he offered me a strait trade or my Loaded 2000 a4 1.8tqm with 32k miles for a nogoro blue 2002 20th GTI with 40k miles. At first i was thinking is he crazy? But then i Test drove it and i actually liked it alot and got me to consider the trade. So what do you guys think about this trade?

Yes..think loooong and hard about that one. I wouldn't give up my A4 for a GTI unless it was the R32 trim.

Besides..back seat lovin just wouldn't be the same in a GTI...

First of all, the 20th is a 2003. They didn't make them in 2002. If you trade your A4 in now, you'd probably get about 16-17k. Money wise it's not a bad deal. It all depends if you can live without the A4. All wheeldrive is nice but the 20th handles very well plus you have ESP. I wouldn't do it, but it's not a crazy idea either.

Yea it was a 2003, my bad i mistyped it, but yea i dont think i'm gonna do it, i never really considered it till i drove it but it felt alot quicker but it handled like shit compared to my a4.

Its not Nogaro blue either...its Jazz blue...an amazing color. There are about 3 20ths in my town, great car, but I NEED awd here in Wisconsin

The 20th should be faster, but it's all your preference.

I traded in my '00 A4 1.8T Front Track Brilliant Black for a '02 GTi 1.8T with the old S4 Dark blue on it, (ming?) tan leather interior, and now I am back to an '04.5 A4 1.8TQM Ultrasport.

The 20th's are sic. The are definantly faster stock for stock between it and an A4. And with a chip can reach some damn good numbers. After riding in my friends chipped 20th and 337, I wish I had waited a bit longer to snag a 20th with the 1.8t. There's just no feeling like it.

The fit and finnish is definantly decent. However, I like the styling of the B5 much more. But out of the box, or even against a slightly modded B5, the fun factor is weighing heavy with the GTi. My VR6 sounds bad ass too!

thats funny. Just the other day I went to my body shop. The owner is a real fanatic. He went from A4 to an S4 sedan to a R32 recently. He also has a porsche and some other older audis. But when he saw my new Nogaro S4 avant he tol me he would trade me straight up for his R32 with 6k miles. I said no thanks.

A little off topic, but just for the sake of argument what about R32? Best of both worlds kind of? AWD and the small lightweight-ness of the GTI?

THe R32 probably isn't that light since it has the whole drivetrain of a TT and they are pretty heavy cars.

That's about 40% true.

And I think people look at the R32 in the wrong light. An R32 is a Vdub enthusiasts car. It costs what, 32k? If you want something that's fast and AWD, the are better choices for that much bread. The R32 was made to be bad ass, and that it is. For someone that wants an out of the box fast AWD GTi. Not somone that's looking for a fast out of the box car.

What makes the 20th 1.8T faster than the A4 1.8T? I thought they were the same engines?

You will loose all the class and style of the four rings...i wouldn't do it...the B5 is a sexy car...not saying the 20th isnt a serious car but the B5 is sooo sick...im will be running mine 'til the ground...i guess i just got the love. Still your decision, although a friend went from a B5 to a GTI and has regret it ever since. Keep it!!

Well for starters, it's lighter. And secondly, it's either 10-30hp more than an A4, depending on wether or not you have a <00 or >01. Plus all 20th's have a 6 speed manual, that's the only drivetrain available in the 20th. So to answer your question, a stock 20th will eat a stock A4 alive.[;)]

same engine, different turbo...the newer B5's are 170hp stock vs the previous 150hp, GTI w/ the 1.8t are tuned to 180hp stock

Gti would smoke an A4 any day of the week. Not to mention out handle it. But the looks of the B5 are priceless.

Agreed, but for the money, I'd rather have a TT 225. That's just my opinion though. Way more tuneable!! W/ a chip, you'll be here:

(via APRs website - I'm sure GIAC's numbers are similar)
91 Octane Chipped - 257hp/264lb-ft
93 Octane Chipped - 263hp/267lb-ft

There's just no comparison to FI. The rush is intoxicating for me. Others' like the linear feel of normally aspirated. Drive both and figure out which one you like best.

Unless you are in adverse weather conditions...then it'll be a different story...[:D]

I hated the wheelspin in my GTI, and knew there was only one way I'd get rid of it - quattro! Granted, I loved it, but I love my Avant so much more. That said, the GTI was faster, as long as it wasn't raining...[cool]

You really think a fwd gti will outhandle a quattro a4?

Absoultely, as long as it's stock for stock and the track isn't soaking wet. The 20th doesn't have a bad shock/combo setup, it's Neuspeed I beleive. After riding in my GTi, I can gurantee you that taking the road course in my Audi would have been a joke.

I traded in my A4 for a Mercedes Benz CLK320, with rear wheel drive. The A4 was frontrack. I have driven quattro cars (B5 S4) and i just love the feel of rear wheel drive. I wish Audi would make Quattro and RWD instead of Quattro and frontrack. Talk about intoxicating, oversteer when managed correctly can be riotously fun. [:D]

amen, my a4 is my first non-RWD car, and I agree, when you've got the power, you can do some gnarly things. I used to do "power" u-turns in my old V8 ford wagon, the rear end was so light I could just light up the tires and do a "2" lane u-turn, or not and do a 4 lane u-turn, but 2 lanes is more fun, especially with people in the car...

not as much fun in the snow though...
