Hey I have a 98 1.8T tip tranny with APR chip. I was wondering what you think is faster with the tip- manual shift or auto. I really don't know would be better for off the line power...

i THINK that the auto is faster... that is not using the tip.

Yea using the auto itself is slightly faster than using tip, even with a tip chip.

strange, you'd think the tip-mode would have the speed advantage.

It seems slower to me in manual shift- just wondering if it has ever been track tested and which mode is really the faster one.

i think tip mode is made for fun...haha, i have a non tip tranny, and i love to shift though gears, you feel more in controll. i wish i had tip, even better stick..

Yeah the auto definitely seems faster. Tip just allows you to control the gears, but takes its sweet time shifting them

I like the tip for downshifting and keeping the RPMS up, but other than that, I still think the auto is faster

Of course, the tip chip helps massively with shifting speed. I'd say that speed-wise, chipped tip > auto > stock tip.

The shift times are actually the same in standard mode or tip. The only reason you think the standard mode is faster is because you don't initiate the shifts so therefore you dont see the actual elapsed time.

I drive almost exclusively in tip since the auto is compelled to dump me into 5th gear when I'm going 35 mph up a hill.

I'm getting the trans looked at next week. Thank God for warranties.
