Jason Whipple and Paul Lambert let me take their A4 out on the track this last Sunday at Infineon Raceway for the ACNA event.

I gotta say...it is a very impressive set up to say the least.

for the record my car has the following

1. STaSIS Ohlins Motorsports
2. Alcon 4 pistons 370mm
3. STaSIS/GIAC ECU
4. AWE Exhaust
5. STaSIS center diff
6. AMS short shifter

The STaSIS A4 has the following

1. STaSIS Ohlins SL
2. Alcon 4 piston 370mm
3. STaSIS/GIAC/MAHLE Big Turbo
4. STaSIS exhaust
5. STaSIS center diff

I switched my wheels so that I ran Toyo RA1's on both cars. I drove my car on Sat and the STaSIS car on Sunday.

The turbo is a massive improvement over my set up. Spool up is almost as early but much stronger and the car pulls right up to red line. On the track it allowed me to stay in 3d in a few corners where I had to be in second and then quickly shift to get any jump out of the corner. The pull out of corners is so much more noticeable and my exit speed was dramaticly faster. No too mention the noise it makes between shifts reminds me of my old 92 S4 and old rally car blow off noise...I am linking a youtube at the very bottom of the page to an older Audi race car (IMSA Audi 90)to give you an idea (obviously not as loud but totally cool).

Turn is was very good and the suspension communicated what was going on in a very predictable manner. The Motorsports are a bit more crisp and the dampening is a little better for track use. But I have to say I was very impressed with the SL's dampening and feel as they do everything very well and is a great set up for people who keep their car as a daily driver and like to track occasionally. The MS's will offer more to the driver who likes to track more often and adjust their suspension set up.

The only two cars that passed me in my instructor run group was a modified 996 TT on Pilot Cup race tires and a modified EVO on race tires. I passed B7 S4's, two Caymans, a lotus Exige, Stage 2 B5 S4 with Ohlins MS and Alcons, could keep up in the straights with my friends big turbo 95 S6 but schooled him in the braking and cornering. I did not get to go up against an RS4 nor a stage 3 B5 S4 but a stage 3 would be faster in the straights. The B7 with the Ohlins is such a great set up and just does what you want it to compared to the B5 chassis. There is no comparison on turn in, mid corner and braking....I had my B5 S4 set up with 3.5 neg degrees of camber and my B7 turns in better and is far more crisp.

Do I think the STaSIS turbo is worth it....without a doubt. To get that performance with a warranty is impressive to say the least.

My students car....what a wonderful piece of track machinery ....he was kind enough to let me take it out for 3 or 4 laps. The 0 to 60 and 1/4 mile numbers need to be thrown out the window and the track performance is the truth.

Have you ever done a ACNA track event before?

Great clip of the IMSA Audi 90 car. Since you're an instructor, thought I'd ask you, when downshifting does it matter, for clutch/synchro wear and tear, whether I clutch, downshift, rev, release clutch, or if I clutch, rev, downshift, release clutch? Wondering. It looks like in the IMSA videos he is doing the former, while I've been doing the latter.

This may be a dumb question, but it's a dumb question I'd like to rid myself of as soon as possible!

Sounds like you had a blast. I went to my first track day a few weeks ago with ACNA. They definitely know how to put on a good event and I highly recommend everyone trying it out at least once.

To Alkemix. If the clutch is in it doesn't matter what you do. The last two steps should be Rev, release.

If you push the clutch in then shift and then rev you are not helping the syncros but you are helping the clutch....if you push clutch in, rev then shift then release the clutch then you are helping both.

nice pics, why is the acura keeping up with the audi in the rain?

Peter Cunningham (owner of Real Time Racing - Acura) runs a top rate program with massive factory support and they had a great rain set up at Mosport. Chip still won the race but the Acuras did an amazing job....there in fact was only two or three spots on the track where to quattro really pulled away.

in car of that actual race

^^sick video Ben. Do the car's get to run full race rain tires when its that wet, or are they still stuck running on the RA-1's?
