View Full Version : dyno'd yesterday. almost lost car.

made 282.8whp and 251.0wtq @ 20psi. uncorrected. 93 octane. this was @ 6300rpm.

wastegate dump melted the front right strap. so the car fish tailed and blew off the dyno right after peak power was made. car sort of just shifted to the right and ended up on the side of the dyno. front right tire was pegged up against the rollers that were still spinning. rubbed a nice concave spot in the tire. i tried to get a pic of it but it was nothing worth showing with an iphone pic.

we were doing a dyno day and i thought id put my car up just because i havent dyno'd it since february. the whole situation could have been really bad. but everything and everyone, thankfully, made it out ok. except for the tire of course.

that pretty much topped off my weekend. i came out friday morning to my car to find my radio, about $900 worth of cash ($80 cash and $805 postal money order), and my vagcom laptop and all accessories missing from my car.

just thought id share. [drive]

That is scary. Glad to hear everyone made it out safely and there was only minor damage. Sucks about the theft.

Am I the only one that had a good weekend? (dropped my car off for tuning and am super excited for the outcome)

yea, it was pretty scary...

i saw the car kinda lurch forward a little as it started boosting hard.. then the whole thing jumped sideways, there were some sparks and lots of smoke... luckily nothing was really damaged, there was a lot of potential for it.

strange thing is, evan told ian to move right before the pull.. he wouldnt have gotten hurt where he was sitting, but it would have been a lot scarier for him..

Ian, 3082's make the same power but have worse spool than the 3076.. just put a new chra in there or buy a 35r whole and cut your losses.

Don Supreme

I am prettty sure you can repair that turbo for less than a new chra.

You have to really watch those wastegate dumps. I saw the exact same thing happen one time except the car was a 900whp honda, which then went through a wall and of all things- knocked over a nitrous fill station. Luckly it didn't whack the valve off the tank.

Another thing to watch is that whatever the ghetto rigged o2 sensor probe is doesn't tip over onto a strap. I had a strap melt about halfway through from that once.

when i destroyed the fins of my 28rs, i was told i couldnt repair it. the new center section was almost as much as a new turbo. i bought my 3076 instead.

Homeowners insurance often covers this kind of thing. For example, if I was loaded up and got jacked my insurance would cover the bike(s) on the roof and all associated gear, cd or camera cases and contents, laptop, navi unit, etc.. I think mine covers 80% after a small deductible.

i need to check in to my insurance. im really not that worried about it to be honest. my vag laptop i scored for $85 on craigslist. they got the computer, bag, and vag cable. i found another laptop (better at that) on craigslist for $85 with a bag, bookbag, and a few other misc items. basically everything i already had just minus the cable. the postal $$ order is a bigger ordeal but if all works as it should, i should be reissued a new $$ order. car insurance is supposed to replace what i had in the car (radio) if i can provide receipts. which i should have.

so all in all, im not out that bad. just the little over $100 it takes to replace the vag/laptop stuff. and the $80 cash. oh well. it is what it is. shit happens.

and the car flying of the dyno is totally stupid .

Which ones do / don't? Last time I looked at the list it looked like most of the common ones do, but I didn't look very carefully.

The GT turbos in the family won't explode no matter what I do, so I haven't had much need to look- I've been after an excuse to upgrade lol.

The criteria is that they could slap new wheels on them, if Ian's turbo's that bad then it won't apply.

GTRSs find a new life in S4s. It's the latest craze.

God forbid if this happened to one of you guys Dyno Accident Repost (http://videos.streetfire.net/video/dyno-accident_155784.htm)

Buy seriously, look where all the people are standing (foot away from each side of the car).

Tigu

on a S4 I ment using gt 28R-s
should run up to 600 hp at least ???
the usual border is something 340 hp for one?
but on V6 engine the intake on an audi needs to be modified pretty much to make it 700+ capable.
at least that is what my little experience show.
and the thing about disco potato being laagishh is this that a friend of mine uses one on his subaru impreza. compared to the original turbo its really slow. in town cycle it is driving like truck.
