View Full Version : How's this price on a 2001 A4

Local dealer has a 2001 A4 2.8 quattro. Certified Pre owned, 52,800 miles. Silver with black leather, moonroof, heated seats etc. Don't think it has the sport suspension though.

Their list was $20,995, and I just got a price of $19,490. Personally I was hoping to be more in the 18k range. Any opinions?

I think it's still a little high. They can move a little bit. They probably took 14 to 15 grand for it as a trade in. Even with the CPO (cost them a whopping 800 bucks), they have room to move. If you are not in a hurry, tell them you want it for 18 grand and not willing to budge. I think you will get it for about 18,700 when its all done. They would have made 3 grand on you.

The oldest trick in the book is them asking where you got your number, they are losing money on the deal as it is, bla bla bla. They just want to move you off of that number and try to get you to justify what you are asking. Just tell them that 18 grand is what you are willing to pay for that car, that's it. Let them come back, and they will. It's not hard for them to get down another 700 to make 3 grand.

Offer them $17K cash - if they don't take it - then they got hosed on the auction or trade-in, or they spent too much time going through it... there are MUCH better deals out there.

Thanks all. Yeah the nice thing is that we're in no hurry here. The wife has a home office so there isn't a pressing need for a 2nd vehicle right now. pigliiit do you have any pics posted somewhere?

no. i was kinda waiting to take pics until it was lowered/rims installed. typical laser red with kamei grill, clear corners. do a search on www.cars.com, you'll probably find a ton of em on there and it will give you an idea what you should pay. also check www.kbb.com to get the blue book value.

i think it s a little high but not by much, if its an audi dealer that you are buying from, the certified warranty is 2,000 so really the price of that car is 18,000 something...thats a bit more correct. tell them you dont want it certified b/c you are goin to just hook it up, and the warrenty wont cover it anyways. but a 01 sport pkg 5 speed is around that price.....
