I'm going to change the headlight bulbs to Sylvania Silverstars on Friday when I go home, but I was wondering how exactly I do this? Any picture tutorial I can follow? I'm an electrical n00b

UPDATE:

Here are the finished pictures, sorry my right fog light is out

It's very easy. I find it easiest to remove the headlight assembly and take the backing off. From that point on it's very easy.

You'll need a Torx T-30 socket to remove the bolts for the headlight.

Like Evil said, the job is far easier once the headlight is out of the car. The passenger's side light will also require you to remove the air intake duct for the airbox.

Also, the owners manual should have some instructions (pictures too!).

Oh and Sylvania Silverstars = good choice!

Mmmm, if you have to ask how to change headlight bulbs you need to do 2 things.

1. Buy a repair manual. Bentley or atleast a Chiltons or Haynes.

2. Atleast pop the hood and have a look at it before posting a question.

Does your car have daytime running lights? Ie. do your headlights come on when you start your car? If so you may want to use the silverstars for your high beams. I had a pair in my '97 A4 and the burnt out in two months, when I took them back for a refund they said it is because they aren't meant to function as running lights only headlights.

He doesn't have to worry about that, he's got an 01 that uses the fog lights as the DRLs

I just got them at the Canadian Tire Auto Centre, for 28.99CDN each, so 58CDN for the pair.

I have no clue how to replace them though and the manual shows nothing! ANyone have pics or something that can help me, i'm driving with only one headlight.

Man its dead simple.

Follow the guide for DIY clear corners. This will explain how to get the lights out of the car. From there all you have to do is pop off the caps on teh back and unhook the wires holding the bulbs in.

Sounds so simple and watch me botch it hahaha
I got home late so there was no light outside to work with

Is it possible to put the headlight back and have it missaligned?

I did it! Well kinda! I finally located the third screw, and I didn't have a ratchet so I was twising and shoving with a screw driver, and got it all out, changed them but I just couldn't get the third screw back in! And yes just as I knew I would, I dropped both of them but was able to find them!

When it goes into Pfaff on Monday for service and bottom right fog light replacement, I'll have them re-screw it in.

Will post pictures tonight

If you don't have all the screws in and have them sitting a little off they could be misaligned. Check it out later tonight to make sure they are not pointing up too high or anything.

Yea I will, they're sitting flush the way they were when I removed them so my guess is that they are okay. Pfaff will re-screw it in soon

Knock the side fog grills out, unscrew 3 screws and take out the fogs. Done ~

What bulbs does Sylvania have to match the Silverstar H7's for my fogs?

You also have Ecodes though, that has a lot to do with the cutoff. I hate these stock housings.

oh, yea i had those, non projector 2piece :-\

i know how you feel, you will feel like your driving a new car if/when you get ecodes.... they make the front end look brand new, and sitting in the drivers seat you see daylight...
