I've had enough i cant deal with this rough shift from 2-3 when im just cruising in sport mode or playing with the TIP. I've talked to the dealer and they say yes we know about the problem but there is nothing we can do about it, Audi knows the problem but wont fix it. its so rough it hurts sometimes, when in sport it feels like it gets caught in 2nd and then violently shifts to 3rd. and playing with the tip to avoid it does the same thing, i dont even use sport or TIP any more cause i cant stand it, and to top it off its starting to click when it changes gears in drive [headbang]. i cant take it i didn't spend this much on a car to have violent shifts if this keeps up and Audi wont do anything this A4 doesn't have to much longer with me. it may be time to go Japanese and be done with a German as a daily driver.
any thoughts on what to do to fix this problem
oh ya 2006 2.0t quattro

If your car is still under warranty, you need to fight it out.... go to another dealer.. obviously your tranny is bad.
They cant refuse to acknowledge that your transmission is bad. This has never happened to me in any b5,b6,b7 that I have owned.

man i have the same problem. When in sport mode it is like it does not know when to shift from 2nd to 3rd. However, i only have this problem when im trying to drive nice. When i am in sport mode driving spirited and not dealing with any traffic, it shifts great, as well as in TIP.

same thing when i drive normally in sport it hard shifts when i drive spirited its fine. i used to love leaving it in sport cause it would down shift to first for me and the tranny would shift gears alot less

I actually complained about a tranny problem to the dealer when I was there this morning getting some other stuff replaced. My problem is that is Drive the trans doesn't want to upshift it just revs horribly (I have the car for a year and 16k miles and just discovered this recently) I told the dealer that it woudln't upshift and they check the comp and it didn't give any fault codes so they said there wasn't a problem. They said it does that because it adapts to your driving style, and my driving style is aggressive/spirited.
So I'm in a similar boat as you and its annoying...

haha go japanese for a better quality product?
They dont even stand by their product under warrantee. trust me, i had several problems with my previous japanese car including problems with the transmission after like 18k miles. what happened? well the dealer didnt stand by the car at all and offered me to pay for a problem that they didnt think was there.
I sold that car as fast as i could

What car was this? and what mods did you have done to it? For some reason I have a hard time buying into your post...

You can reset that to prove them wrong, there's a procedure that will set it back to a default setting, I believe it's in the manual or somewhere on these forums. All you have to do is a combination of gas/brake and the ignition, but I don't remember the exact order.

I had a toyota FJ cruiser brand new with NO mods. List of problems:
Bad clutch slave cylinder
2 bad syncros
Serpentine belt squeaking and needed replacement
3 factory wheels made out of round
2 broken front windows
There were countless design problems, too many to list here

if you bought it when it first came out... it's about the same as someone buying into the 2005.5 except the same problems in A4s since the good ol days keep popping up. I would not treat the FJ cruiser (a failed atttempt to compete with the Hummer H2/H3 line) as an example of a failed japanese auto.
Toyota... Honda... they know what they are doing... but I think our cars are just as reliable as theirs (luxo version cars of course)

I didn't know you could do it as a driver, I thought it had to be set to the default settings in the comp. Maybe I'll look into this...

i may have to look into setting it back to stock cause right now i cant stand it, its starting to get hung up in D and shift hard into 3rd. why did i buy a TIP i wanted a nice commuter that i didn't have to worry about and i was tired of clutching it to work. id take a clutch any day over this A4 and its shifting issues.
im also tired of the hesitation in D you come to a stop hit the gas to go and i think the tranny goes and has a sandwich before it takes off its really annoying and a little dangerous if you dont know about it.

Any news on the issue? I'm starting to have the same problem, it seams the slower I drive in D to the 3rd the harder the shift.
its so rough it hurts sometimes

I have heard if you disconect your battery all of the settings the car has, like your driving style will be erased.
This is 2nd hand knowledge so take what you want from it :-)
