View Full Version : Gonna buy an A4 tomorrow...but have a question

I've managed to work myself into a couple of good deals on two separate A4's. One is a 3.2, the other a 2.0T, both manual AWD. I am torn.
Here's the thing: I'm coming from a Maxima, a beloved Maxima, well-tuned and pretty quick. (I don't know if that makes me a villain around these parts). I will do some tuning to the Audi, but nothing extreme, maybe a chip, intake, probably not much else.
So, am I going to be disappointed with the power of the 2.0T over time versus the 3.2, being used to the 6-cyl. Max? And are there more or less mods. available for either the 3.2 or 2.0T? I don't want to buy a 3.2 and find out I can't do anything with it...any insight will be greatly appreciated.
I tried the search, but didn't find the information I was looking for...sorry, you've probably seen this post before.

2.0T = very mod friendly
3.2 = not so much
with just a chip on the 2.0T you'll have nearly the same power of the 3.2 but it will be lighter and more fuel effecient.

You see that's the type of information I'm looking for...thank you very much. This is a completely different world to me. With the Max everyone starts off with identical engines and goes from there. Other than options there's not much to think about.
Thanks again.

Explode...thanks. That's language I can understand...up until you started in about the SSK and the snub. Not sure what those terms refer to, but thanks.
It actually looks like your car is almost identical to the one I will be buying.

SSK = Short Shift Kit
Snub = Front engine mount/bracket. Gives your shifts a better feel. Cheap, yet very effective mod.

Ah SSK is called STS for the Max...that's a must have. I was not big on the way the A4 shifted in stock form. Thanks again.

i'm one of the few 3.2 drivers on this site. i love my 3.2. it sounds great, drives great. but damn man, there are almost no performance mods available. 2.0T is your tuner car. word is a chip will get you to match the 3.2 in performance.
but i do love my car :)

Im the same as toothysaw. Got the 3.2 loaded (Ti, Conv, Etc). Not many mods, but you can't beat the smooth power of the V6. The 2.0T is definitely the tuner car though, and with a chip you can get near the power of the 3.2.

The 2.0T is your tuner car. With simple bolt ons less than 2k the car is in the 13's.

haha sorry i was typing and thinking fast.
JHM is a brand of short shift kit...personally my favorite
snub mount...reduces engine shock during shifting. Very easy and quick mod worth every cent of ~$30-$40
exhaust - explanatory
FTW = for the win
FTMFW = for the m'fn win

2.0T.... I used to have a accord v-6 but went with the 2.0t because better on gas and easier to do mods to make up the power difference for under 1k...remember your using premium in the audi so getting the 2.0t will help narrow the gap....The V-6 is very smooth but not mod friendly. V-6 gives u the power right out the box but the 2.0t is no turtle IMO...
