So i finally was able to get my MTM after much waiting from the dealer. After having to get the cnahce to drive an apr b7 (my buddies) and now this MTM chip they are very similar. From what i have been told and this may start a war but what ever, the MTM chip is under rated and the apr is a little over stated. Overall i was just happy to get my car chipped and really unleash more capabilities out of this car. Chip flash ended up costing $595 so i think it was a steal over some of the other chips. it is amazing what a little software upgrade can do for this car. One of the reasons i love my Audi's

I have an MTM in my TTQC (2000), I've never had a CEL, and it logs 229HP out of a 180 with an intake (VTDA) and exhaust (Borla). More or less Stage 2. Not one single problem in all the years of ownership, and ot is smooth, with torque coming in at 2300 all the way up to about 5500.

My Avant 1.8T MT5 has a GIAC, and makes 218 HP on the identical data logger, has K&N and Jetex. It is peakier: I get a strong pull at 3100 rpm, and it runs to about 5500 also.

IMO: MTM rules. Right down the road from I-stadt: what do you think?

Wow... I'm surprised that it only cost you $595. Good choice! You can never go wrong with MTM.

in that article the problem ended up being that he didnt use the right octane. he got the upgrade from joe hoppen like i did and joe hoppen even offered for him to bring the car down for them to check it over and work on it for free. I think this is the best chip for the money. the car pulls like as monster from about 2500 to 5500. this thing islike night and day i really love the being put back into the seat.

Poor dynos are always detrimental to brand value. APR definitely owns the market share here. But it's nice to hear some positive results from an most-likely very game competitor; MTM.

does mtm offer warranty coverage or a way to revert to stock before going in to the dealer? im glad you like your chip but i hope it doesnt neg your warranty when (and if) things go on your engine (which the do go, even on bone stock ones).

hey everyone...yeah, i'm pretty nooby...but i want to ask a quick question. If anyone knows...between the apr/mtm chip...is it possible to reflash the car yourself back to all stock programming? I just want to know incase I need to bring the car in for service and all that. thanks! my bad for the dumb question.

I used Shell V-power 93. It's the only thing that goes in the car. The problem went away when I had them flash it back to stock. My car happened to be the first one in the US to have the MTM chip and it just want right but they did correct it and understand it's very good for the US now. I wouldnt hesitate to put MTM on my car again any time. I've had great luck with a bunch of their products including tens of thousands of miles on their MTM stage 3 kit on my 1.8t that never had a hiccup.

cheers! mike

APR lets you flash back to a program that has identical outputs to stock. This is fine for service visits as there is no indication of any change. MTM does not and that may be because in Germany they warranty their products. You could have it flashed back to stock but it would mean going to the MTM distributor to have it done.

okay, so based on what i have been reading and everything, the service department will not be able to detect the upgrade to the ecu unless of course they try and see if its possible to switch between the different setups.

I am from the san antonio texas area and there is only 1 dealership here. i was wondering if anyone has had experience w/ any mods and their warranty work.

If you get the "lockout" feature it will lock the program in stock mode so even if they attempt to switch programs nothing will happen until a 4 digit secret PIN is entered.

No lights flash of any kind until the correct PIN is entered. It will give no indication whatsoever.

cheers! mike
