I have searched the forum high and low and have not really found any reviews on the Nav unit for the Audi. I am looking to get one and install it but i want to make sure its worth it, as apposed to getting and aftermarket unit or a windshield mounted Garmin. If anyone can give me some comparative feedback i would appreciate it.

i am also curious. i have considered buying one off ebay. its about $1000, seems worth it. do you need anything else after the unit or does it just swap right in?

I had mine removed from my B6 (returning lease car). I had a Garmin C340.

From a functional standpoint - both worked well as GPS units Both allow you to enter or change destinations on the fly. The RNS was faster acquiring positions and faster with search functions. During voice prompts, the music volume if on, was reduced in order for you to hear the directions. The RNS also shows prompts and proximity warnings on the dash display.

The RNS-E looks great, since it's OEM and fits perfectly into the dash. The unit also plays MP3s via 2 SD cards.

Install was very easy, plug and play with the supplied wiring harness and farka antenna attachment. I like the clean oem look and don't like having suction cup marks all over the windshield.

I was very happy with my RNS-E and if it weren't for my car being leased, I would have kept it for a long, long, time.

Also, my unit was purchased from Ebay - it was european converted to North American. You also have to VAG-COM your car with your tire size (in case you drive in a tunnel, the unit can continue to calculate your location and distances).

Good luck!

IMO You can not beat the RNSE in the Audi. I have tried Audi Navs, BMW Navs, MB Navs and portable navs and the RNSE blows all of them out of the water. RNSE FTMFW!!!!

I think from a functionality stand point you would be better off getting the DNX-8120 made by Kenwood.

For nearly the same price you get Garmin Nav, DVD player, a wide range of media formats supported, iPod integration, far superior tuning capabilities and a touch screen. Granted it is not going to look 100% OEM but the 8120 looks damn good when installed properly.

Well first of all I don't really see the need for a DVD player in the front nav, are you really going to use it? Touchscreens attract fingerprints and draw away from oem looks, one reason why I think they're virtually non-exhistant in European cars. iPod also works with RSN-E but I personally prefer to use the SD slots.
