Swapping a 1.8T into my 96 A4 2.8 need a lil info.

Ok I wrecked my A4. I got a 97 1.8T for parts. I just got it all back together and found internal damage to the engine.

I have the complete car it is a running driving 1.8T quattro. My question is this. What all do i have to do? Just swap the ecu and harness as well as the engine and tranny? I see I need to swap the rad and all that as well as the engine cradle. If it is an easy direct plug and play I can do it in a day.

Use the 2.8 tranny, longer gears ftw. I belive your gonna want to switch ecu, wiring harness, motor(obviuosly) You will want to switch the rad and all that unless your running a front mount.

Other than that the wiring is just plug and play? I thought the trannys were different? Just use the 1.8t clutch and flywheel? It mates up to the input shaft in the tranny?

yup, the 1.8 will mount right up to the v6 tranny, and then you do not have to worry about the different tranny mounts.

Engine loom, ecu,intercooler, IC pipes and brackets,exhaust, you will be ok as you have a donor car,i had to peice my parts together as i went along when i swapped to a 1.8t intead of a NA 1.8

the mounts are the same for the 2.8 as the 1.8t? doesnt he need to swap the sub frame?

Yeah, the subframe should need to be done as far as I can tell, Im measureing tomorrow as my shop was crazy busy today

yah you need the 1.8 subframe and arm off the tranny.

I got the v6 running right.... BUt, for the sake of gas milage, I am going to do this swap in a few weeks.

Buy the clutch and F/W based on the engine, not the trans. The slave cylinder will work without mods. Swapping in the 2.8 trans is something a lot of us would like to do, but can't justify dropping the cash on just the trans.

If you wanted to run the 1.8T trans, to do the install properly you'd have to swap subframes. It can be modified, but the tranny mounts are different.

Off topic, that 97 parts car. You going to part out all the stuff you aren't using?

Yes I am parting the rest out. The car im swapping into is a 2.8 that is getting the 1.8 engine. I just wanted to know what clutch setup otheres were running.

any cluch setup will work fine. Do you have any dreams of power past a chipped k03? If not id reccomend a southbend stg3 with whatever flywheel you want.

Ok, so I have next week off of work and I am gunna do this. Is the wiring from the ecu to the fuse box the same? Can I just unplug the wires from the V6 ecu and plug in the 1.8T ones?
