I am really looking into going supercharged and I wanted to hear some input from anyone who already is. I think it would be unique and I would still be paying the same insurance premium for a 2.8 [:D]

well, the thing you should get from that thread is just buy an S4 or mod a 1.8, plain and simple. i'd DD a 2.8 to 250k miles+ if it wasn't expensive to maintain and not exactly cheap on insurance either compared to other cars.

I dont get what you are saying. The 2.8 is expensive to drive?

well, it's not a '93 honda is all i'm saying and generally parts/maintenance is more expensive, not to mention harder to work on.

I have to agree with this> I havent had huge maintenance expenses. I did the timing belt and water pump myself.[wrench]

the 2.8's have very little issues compared to the 1.8's tho.

what goes wrong?
turbo might go bad, doesn't seem to happen that often
oil sludge, known issue just use synthetic which u should anyway
coilpacks/icm, not really a big deal

There are also way more 1.8T on this forum so more issues will come up. Also you can't bring in the engines that have mods.
Im sure the 2.8 is a nice engine but I dont think it you can say the 1.8T has way more issues.

I have an s/c. I like it. My timing belt broke though after 57k miles (137k miles total). Looks like the mechanic who changed the first one didn't change the tensioners. And yeah... I'm pissed, but it's actually not worth the hassle of trying to recoup some compensation.

So the s/c installation was pretty easy. It cost me just under 3k for a used one. The S/C now has 40k miles and it is still quiet like when I first bought it.

On top of that, these things seem to be maintaining their value pretty well. I posted it as a feeler in the scaudi classifieds and I've had a little bit of interest. I'm pretty sure it'd sell with little effort for $2600.

btw, my only issue with PES' G2 kit is that there is no room for an intercooler. Otherwise, I'd say I'm very happy with my investment.

This is something I'd seriously like to do this fall or winter maybe. Finding a used one is difficult and brand new ones are 5 grand. I cant wait til I have the money to get one!

if you're not expecting to make 250HP to the wheels then do it! i'm not saying it's impossible to get more power out of the S/C kit but to reach the 300HP to the wheels with a S/C requires a lot of $$$.

40,000 miles with the S/C and so far my 2.8 is holding up good, mind you i have the smaller pulley also.

wanna buy mine?
