How do you plan to do it; Weld the rear doors, bondo the seams and paint? it's going to look weird but show us a pic ;)

I'd love to show a pic, that's why I need a photoshop expert.
I plan to either use the cabrio doors or just extend the front ones, move the B pillar further back and thicken the C pillar. The rear doors would be integrated into the rear quarter panel, basically A5 proportions but an A4 body. Im picturing a cross between a cabrio and A5.

isnt that what an A5 is for or a cabrio?

A5s and Cabrios do not look like b7 A4s. If they had a hardtop cabrio that would be closer but the tail still looks different. Here's a website with a few renderings, however the proportions are not quite right, I would like to mimic the A5 proportions if possible.

far too much money and time spent on a project like that. just buy an a5 if you want a coupe it would prob cost a whole lot less and be far safer

Thank you!!!
if you moved the B pillar further back, so it doesnt look like a rear door delete, it would look better, also from this angel its hard to tell but the C-pillar going to the trunk need to be thicker where it connects to the trunk. Let me know if you want to play with it some more.
either way thank you

Why don't you just get a A5/S5? You'd get the same result.

dobos100

The point is to have a 2dr A4 not an A5, some of you are missing the point, its to do something that hasn't been done before, I could ask many of you why Mod your A4s why not buy an S4? same reasoning and logic.

Totally different, people want A4 instead of S4 for price and fuel economy, You can get an A5 for less than what it takes to mod yours (+ the value of your car) and if you do find a way to "move the pillar" you are chopping up your car's frame, which would result in you having to drive the car really nicely and not hit a pot hole and make the frame fall apart.

dobos100
05-14-2008, 11:06 AM
I respect you oppinion (a4 vs. s4), that could be a whole new thread.

You can move the pillar without sacrificing the structural integrity of the car. It just has to be done right.

I do realize an A5/S5 would be cheaper, but what is the fun in that.

i saw an s5 today, very hot. the proportions would be hard to replicate with our cars. and would end up looking funky.

There is a good chance I will not, however, my best friend has done dual axle lambo door VW Scirocco, Chopped Top Astro Van with matching boat, etc. This would take a lot of money and even more time. I'd like to think I can pull it off.
How about coming up w/ ideas to help me, instead of hoping I will fail.

I think just shaving the rear doors would look really bad. A 2 door with a full sized back seat? The only way to convert it into a good looking 2 door would be to shorten the car a tad IMO.

kudos for thinking outside the box.....Also if your making it a 2 door i would relocate the door handles to under the front mirrors this would give it even smoother body lines and make it that much more unique....

Well,.. it was a 10 minute concept car [:D]

I also had a friend that flipped his Opel over and cut the roof off to make it convertible. I guess if you can do much of the work yourself and start with a salvaged car you can do crazy things without putting a lot of money into play.

Great job Tribe! I have something to work with now.
I think it looks pretty good, however, would you do one where you make the rear triangle window part of the C pillar?

To everyone else, thank you for the input and the interest/support. I am looking for sponsors to see if I can get this off the ground, I will keep you posted on the progress.
Thanks again

sweet look now shave the door handles and hide them under the side mirrors, if this was a real car i would of a had a hell of a time picking between the 4 door and the 2 door.

I think the correct way to go about doing this would be to buy an A4 cabrio and convert it into a hardtop. That might be taking the easy way out, but it would already have the right proportions, right size back seat, you wouldn't have to relocate the B-pillar, and the list goes on.

Tribe's photoshop makes an Audi resemble the Saab Linear models...they look like an elongated bird's head. the entire body, both interior and exterior in a coupe are designed to flow and look good together. a 4-door converted will look awkward. props for the idea, but really plan everything out before pulling the trigger on such a crazy job. it has to be done right in order to successfully pull it off! good luck if you follow through...

Pretty basic really. To stretch the door > select it with any of the lasso tools and than Edit > Free transform, or Transform > Distort.

The window with the pillar and interior is from another pic of my car. Also select it > Copy. Paste, or drag it and Free transform (Command+T on a Mac) or Transform > distort so you can stretch it all over the place.

The clone and patch tools are also useful to make things disappear.

Equalize levels > Flatten image.
