What changes in mpg have you noticed if any due to the increased weight?

None...same mpg, improved performance, better looks...

My gas mileage has dropped quite a bit compaired to my 17's. I used to get 300 miles per tank, now im around 240-260. And i only drive 14 miles to work each day during the work week.

no change in gas mileage whatsoever. however thinner sidewalls = feel every bump/crack/etc. in the road.

How the hell do you drive? Like you've got a race car? LOL I get about 400+ miles per tank and over the last 1000 miles I've average about 30 MPG. That's mixed highway/city...but more highway.

Thanks for the replies guys. Nice to know the mpg doesn't have to suffer. I have this 'secret mod fund' (aka wife doesn't know about it) and I am trying to figure out how to spend it. I am trying to chose between chip vs wheels.

im on the gas full time but it is probably 80% highway for me...i drive like im on the autobahn however so i could probably get even better mileage if i slowed it down a bit

i drive back and forth between San Diego and LA every night...cruise control at 83-87 yields best fuel mileage numbers...also drafting helps a lot...find some douche in a chevy avalanche or some P.O.S. pickup and tailgate him while he does 90 and you will get 33mpg easy

i can get 400 miles on a tank with my car's computer telling me i only have 5 miles left! lol usually i get 350ish when the light turns on and i fill up. so i'm right around 26mpg. but my 18" are lighter then my 17" too.

god i wish i got 400+ but im city full time....the only time i get real good mpg is when i feel like driving and hit the 495,spark a blunt and just cruise to god knows where and get like 100 extra miles lol

I get like 425 to a tank, back when I was stock I used to get like 450ish dont think its from the wheels though, these are lighter then my stock 17's.

Im not on highway and its funny that you mention this, because when im on highway since im going faster my mpg's drop to 340. :)

I went from stock 16s to 18 with a all season tire and noticed much better handling and grip of the road with no hit in any performance area.

it all depends on the wheel. a lighter wheel is most likely better on gas but i dont think 3/4/5 even 6 or7 lbs per wheel matters..

i always used to get 250 MAX mpg, now with the gas, i drive so slow its not even funny, im waiting to see how many miles i get on my tank this week=]]

You got me, I get between 220-320 a tank. The one time I got more was on my way to Atlantic city after a fill up i had a 400 mile range but that didn't last long and it dropped to 300 after 2 miles of driving at 100mph.

6 or 7 lb per corner of unsprung weight is pretty significant...
that'll DEF. affect your gas mileage

autoverrukt, to get back on topic, i doubt there's going to be a big difference in weight if you're upgrading to 18's from the 17" stockers (which aren't exactly light-weight) - you can always get that chip in the future to help equalize the additional weight [:)][up]

I get about 240 or so with 100% city driving.

are there any 18s or 19s that are actually lighter than stock 17s?

Lots. The 18" RS4 reps from VMR for one are lighter than the stock 17's. Other options are BBS CH and expensive forged wheels like BBS RE, RGR, RS-GT, iForged, DPE, HRE, etc...

I drive like a stupid defensive driver because here in CA, you haft to watch yourself or some dipshit will rear end you. People here are constant brake riders, but for some reason, i just get crappy mileage and only have 4000 on the odomete. But when it highway driving and i go to LA, im around 420 miles per tank. But just city driving blows.

i have a 2004 B6 A4 1.8 - just went from OEM 17's to 19's. I drive more highway, i take it easy around town because it does take more UMF to get the bigger wheels going. but on the highway, you actually have a bigger wheel to turn, they turn slower, hence, same or better mpg. i'd say overall i am ABOUT the same, maybe 2mpg less.

wish I got CLOSE to 400 miles a tank, I get 250 on a good day.

From my experience, Audi engines are tight and need some mileage to get broken in. After your 5k service, see if it improves. My improvement came with about 8k miles for the A4. Seemed like it wasn't until 20k miles that my S4's engine 'loosened up'.

i hear that a lot that the engines in these cars need to break in a bit to reach full potential.
