How bad will that be?

(some people run stage3 with the stock smic)

I would say so. you're going to have timing pull like a mofo. J31 turns the k04 into a flame thrower.

can it be done? probably. is it advisable? NO!

maybe you could run a water/meth kit instead ? just a thought. [:)]

Correct me if im wrong but it is a canceled file right?

Haha, too bad the stock SMIC will glow like the turbo.[>_<]

I would never suggest running the stock SMIC with the J31 file since it runs way more boost then the K05 file he already runs.

For a reference point, It took me 2-3 hard runs to soak up the stock I/C w. my 28RS at 23 psi

I think your a bit of a nerd modified so you can do the math [:p]

Honestly, id only do it temporarily

i remember driving aliel's car (pc16) and this thing was a blast to drive and w/o a fmic its def not gonna be as fun. Price isnt the factor thats holding you back, ill bet its the b/s piping that is.

Problem is that the J31 runs more timing and 28+psi. At that boost the IAT's coming out of it are much higher then what is coming out of your GTRS at the same boost level.

The APR stage 3 owners would heat soak the stock SMIC by 3rd gear when drag racing, seen it with my own eyes way back in 2001 at Dubwars.

You can run it....sorta...not really. Just set your boost low until you do get one.

You can find them in the classifieds. Thats were I got mine.

I see so its not the amount of charge air, its the temp of the charge air

Yeah thats what i mean, a few runs (gears)

based on the replies[:D], i think ill restrain myself from installing the chip until i get an ic solution running.

In the mean time i want to log a ton of baseline runs so I can compare before and after.

im really curious to see how block 20 compares between the two, as its supposedly where all the power comes from

I ran J31 in the past, and from my experiance I know that you wont be able to even run the motor past 3.5-4krpms since it get heatsoked so fast and it gets throttle cut. I know because i drove the car for a day before i put the fmic on. But besides the point J31 is one of the most fun files, instentanous boost, and if i remember correctly i ran 13.9 at the 1/4 mile track.

block 20 is just the CFs, I think that requested load (and therefore boost), overall timing, and injector on-time is what im going to get looking at.

I dont know if they converted the J31 file when they went to flash tuning on the 2000. But it isn't like the B5's are being left behind, GIAC is working on doing BT and BAT tuning for the B5.

development has mostly died across the board. maybe there are some second tier vendors picking up the slack in some areas, but soon you'll see part shortages and rising prices. (see valeo e-codes)

We still have 4 B5's in house, 3 of which are 1.8Ts (2 are avants) [:D]

We have actually considered creating a J31 flash version, if there is enough interest. I know for the hardcore auto-x guys, the J31 seemed to be the weapon of choice. It seems that most prefer to go straight to big turbos these days and that it's more so the K04 market that is dying.

There will be new version of PC16 coming out soon for the nDBW guys. [up]

just wait and save up 300 bucks and install a fmic off ebay. i got my fmic with piping for 250 and installed in it a night.

It's probably just a bit more refined. the original pc-16 was a bit rough...tq spike like a freight train etc. It probably runs a bit more boost too. Maybe less timing.

I'm just speculating here.

What will be the cost for an upgrade? What kind of changes? Any more power?!!

I will have more information as we get closer to releasing the update.

We are looking to make the fuel delivery more simplified for one. IE. run the injectors at 4 bar.

More info coming soon. [up]

Unitronic runs 440cc injectors at 4 Bar for the 2001 (which is stock fpr) I dont know how that is simplifying things, I would think it would strain the fuel pump with higher boost applications. I have been hearing about the GIAC BT files, I wish you would have had BT files available about a year ago I would have jumped on that train in a heart beat.

Some customers have had a hard time dialing in the A/F perfectly using just a 3bar FPR and have had to resort to tinkering with an adjustable FPR to get it right. We are seeking to alleviate this so that it is pure plug and play.

Considering what a K04 will draw for fueling, we are not too worried about drying up the pump as it will not flow what your GTRS will.

the fueling issues for AEB (PC16) are different than any other model year because of the injector pulse limitations of the AEB ecu.

are you guys attacking this?
