View Full Version : getting a straight driveline

I just replaced the engine(aeb) and put the mounts in the original holes, when I am under the car the driveshaft looks crooked. the only other thing that I didn't change was the driver tranny mount that is torn somehow. Could that be throwing it off? or would I need to choose a different hole on the drivers side engine mount? I thought it does not change as long as your using the same engine type.

Has anybody has issues like this?

Changing the mounts shouldn't change the position of the engine unless you got the wrong mounts. Since the drive shaft comes off the tranny you should be able to look at that and see if it is in the correct position, if it is then it would have to be flush with the motor for everything to line up right. Are there any strange vibrations or noises? Sounds like you might be looking for a problem that isn't there. I haven't payed attention to the drive shaft position but if it is a little misaligned it should be ok since the universal joints are meant to work at different angles(now that I think of it i haven't even looked at the rear dif. so i'm assuming it has a universal joint.)

The mounts are s4 I think. They look just like the old ones but more beef. Thats what I meant, I was looking at where the ds comes out of the tranny and it looked crooked so I slid a ratchet handle around it and looked at the distance, it looks like its not the same all around it. I can't tell if it has any noises or vibrations because I just put this engine in it and I don't have it all back together yet.
If someone else could take a look at the angle of the ds coming out of the tran that would help.
Also, there is no u-joint off the back of the tranny, I think it is a slip yoke.
