Anyone tried this?

Basically they can tune any b5 a4 via flash or usb and you drive around with it for free and after 5 hrs it goes back to stock. I have a local dealer which is only like 20mins away so I'm definitely going to try it but I just wanted to know if someone else had already tried it. The numbers are similar to GIAC and APR, but its way cheaper.

That's an awesome idea.

Even if the person decide not to buy the software immediately after returning to the shop, you know people are going to be so disappointed with their car's stock (now subpar performance) and they will return and purchase the upgrade.

It's like giving out a free hit of crack.

i did it with my s4.... It was awesome, until i blew both diverter valves and my throttle body boot.... Needless to say I bought t after the trial it was amazing, you just need to upgrade certain parts to deal with the upgraded boost levels..

ya i read the price off of the additional control software its only 199 on top of the $500 so ya its not cheap never mind but thanks for the info, in that case the giac dealer will do it for the same price so im back up in the air.

uummm if your audi is befor 2002 IIRC you cant do it that way. you have to pull the ECU and install a chip.

and its not cheaper. my chip installed with tax was 480 at a local APR dealer. i just checked and to chip my ECU with revo i would need to pay 499 plus the shiping to them. or if i go to a dealer in my area it would cost 499 plus probably another 50 for labor.

also APR claims are higher.

revo 195HP and 225 TQ
APR 200HP and 243 TQ

also APR has a test pipe file that you can get for free with your chip.

do not do a trial for revo

their revert to "stock" is not stock and it will be a total nuisance if you ever decide to change software. revo in general will be a nuisance if you ever try to flash over it. leaves programming incomplete dtc's ...junk

Is Revo the only company that does this trial software deal? Anyone know if APR or GIAC dealers offer anything similar?

both apr and giac also offer a free trial, but i contacted the local dealer and you have to pay for the software upfront and you get a 30 free trial, at the end of the 30 days if your not happy the will revert your ecu back to stock but there will be a labour fee.....

i'm having trouble deciding what sw to go with, everyone seems to be going with Giac but the local giac dealer here in toronto is charging just over $900 for it, wich i'm having a very hard time paying that much money for such little gain, on the other hand i found a shop that does the Neuspeed flash for $500. i might give that a try

neuspeed is over priced and under powered. look for an APR dealer in our area

i found 1 shop that does APR but the told me that my 01 they have to solder a chip, and since they don't do it in house it would take about 6 days

you can't flash a AEB comp thru the OBD port

prey

I'm gonna say it the last time, i just had mine flashed today, REVO has the file for the AEB engine. I think I would know, i was in the car when the guy was putting the program in.

revo does have software for the AEB, but for the early cars its harware that has to be soldered in, maybe you lucked out cause you have a 99.5 but if I want revo in my 97 I have to get a new chip put in

uummm im 99.5 and i had to deal with hardware

Calisto

ok to clarify, there have been advances since some of you have been chipped, you no longer need to get a chip soldered in even if you are AEB, they worked some kind of magic with cam sensors and something else and they can just flash it now. that is only as of about Jan 08 so its definitely new

Does anyone have anymore info on the GIAC trial tuning?

uummm if your audi is befor 2002 IIRC you cant do it that way. you have to pull the ECU and install a chip.

That's not true. I have a 2001.5, and revo was just a flash.

also APR claims are higher.

revo 195HP and 225 TQ
APR 200HP and 243 TQ

Those are just claims. All the tuners are fairly close chip for chip, as demonstrated by real world scenarios time and time again. [up]

also APR has a test pipe file that you can get for free with your chip.

As does revo. And revo has various other tweaks if you ask. They have a test pipe/fmic file that gives a little more power. They can upgrade (at least in my 2001.5) for larger injectors to add even more. They also can upgrade you to various BT files if you ask (once again, I speak about my car). In the end if you really want them to do something for you you can get your shop to hook you up with Revo on the phone to discuss it. They'e not always on board, for instance they flat out told me "no" when I asked for something comprable to the GIAC Hammer file for my car. And sometimes they tell you things don't exist when they do, such as telling you a certain BT file doesn't exist when you have another forum member running it in their car, but other than that they're pretty reasonable about tweaks. I've been running REVO for about 2 years now and I love it. Its similar to other tunes out there. It does run at higher boost, I had to change my vacuum lines 3 times, it kept blowing out. [up]
