same here, looking for info about VMAXX, I oredered them awhile ago and Stratmosphere is taking thier time, but they will be here Monday. I searched alot about them and some issues where they didn't go down far enough in the rear but looking at yours I don't see that problem. How is the ride?

No pics of the pie plates yet. I ended up getting the other three Fat Fives from random places so I have a set of those also... I think the Fat Fives will be the first to go on my car. Pie Plates may end up being winter wheels!

Wow, I didn't have that problem at all. I can go down another 1-2 inches. The car would be completely undriveable at that point. I really like the coils. They are really nice on the highway. I really need to get fenders / wheels / tires / ride height figured out before I really play w/ handling.

1) very nice avant, I love the stance and think it would look tits with a set of fat fives

2) what is the ride like with the vmaxx? I know everyone has been asking but I'm gonna be that other person. Do you know the spring rates and also can you adjust the height of the car while the c/o are on the car? bounce much or a nice firm ride?

thanks for the help and again, sick ride

I don't know the spring rates. If your looking for a track setup go with something else. I cart my family around in this car from time to time so I need to have something that won't break their backs. My wife refused to drive in my JTI which had Koni Coils in it. I personally love the ride, but that's only my opinion... [drive]

one more question and I think I might be getting some Vmaxx... can you adjust the height while the c/o's are still on the car, I think I read somewhere that you can't but I might be making this up.

my car will never see a track, she is a cruiser for sure so I want to slam her to the ground, but I don't want to bounce around everywhere.

The height can be adjusted while they are on the car. It's a pain as you really can't get a full turn w/ the wrench, but the same thing w/ every coilover I would expect.

You didn't end up needing them? I don't think I could even use them with my current setup, but I wouldn't mind buying them back. I could actually use them when I put the S4's back on next winter... Who knows I may end up using the pie-plates for winter... Either way it's nice to have a set laying around.

Kumho Ecsta ASX 225/45/17 -- no spacers front or rear

Rubbing was in the front only on the plastic wheel liner on the fenders. The inside lip of the fender was also rubbing on turns when you hit a bump. I rolled the fenders and cut back the liner and I don't have a problem anymore. Pretty easy fix. [wrench]

I bet if I dropped the width of the tires I would have been ok. Something like 215/45/17 and I bet I would have gotten enough stretch to be ok. Possibly switching to Toyo T1-R's or Falkens could have also helped. I had the Kumho ASX's already so I didn't really have that option.

dieselgti
04-11-2008, 07:34 AM
FMIC was installed by the previous owner. I believe it's an Ecode FMIC. No cutting required to fit it in. Although I need to adjust (possibly trim) the bumper so the headlight washer jets don't get caught when they pop up. Also, the lower bottom lip pokes down a little due the FMIC. I may adjust it at some point.

http://linusolu.net/dieselgti/morepics/AudiAvant/tn/13469DSC01709.med.jpg

The K04 setup was a nice upgrade in power. So far it's been 100% reliable. It's my daily commuter so I need it to be a solid setup... So far it hasn't even triggered a CEL! Keeps fingers crossed!

Was the PO on the forums? Did he sell you those OZ SLs?

dieselgti
04-11-2008, 07:52 AM
Yeah, he's an audizine member. I think he spends more time on audiworld though. He kept the OZ's for his S4 Avant and gave me the S4's. I did buy the OZ's from him at one point, but shipping was too much of a hassle... I ended up wanting to go a different route anyways... I love the look of OEM rims! Although, the OZs probably would have been a nice performance upgrade. Those are some light rims!

The Stasis setup sounds really nice! The PO had them installed on my car before I got it. For what I use the car for I love the Vmaxx's. If I had plans to track / autocross my car I would have gone with either Koni's or Stasis. I love how the car rides since the vmaxx's were installed. Personally, I think they are a really nice setup.

You can run wider tires without rubbing. I ran 235/45-17 Pilot Sports, 235/40-17 Toyo RA1 track tires, and 245/40-17 Yoko Guardex all on 17x8 et35 wheels. The first two were as low as yours. The Yokes were on stock sport but they look like they would tuck up in there nicely. Hell, I want to run 255/35-18 on those flat fives. [O_O]

In the rears maybe... The fronts I wouldn't rub if I was going straight down the road. Take any kid of turn that had a decent size bump and I would rub. Mostly when I had my wife and kids in the car. With 225/45 tires i could barely get my finger in the fender on the top. I think it was mostly the fender liner though... Right now w/ the cut fender liner and rolled lip I have no rubbing at all.

what part of the fender liner did you cut away? my suspension just settled and my 19s are rubbing the fender liner (the fender is rolled so at least its not hitting metal) but it's annoying to hear the liner and i don't wanna damage my tires.

dieselgti
04-13-2008, 09:00 PM
I pulled the liner out and cut about 1.5 inches away from where you actually roll the fender. Takes only a few minutes and it makes a huge difference...

onemoremile
04-29-2008, 01:41 PM
You don't need to remove the liner to trim it. Just get a good razor knife and it cuts fairly easily.

Just to show the difference, here are a couple shots of the 245/40-17. They are on stock sport suspension but look like they will fit fine when dumped another inch or two. They might not fit as low as your car but I'll never lower it that low again anyway. When it is that low both the handling and ride quality suffer. Get about a half or one finger gap and everything gets better and the control arms will last much longer since they won't be bound up at rest.

I ran it low for a little while too and got sick of it. It also made it too easy to shear the grease fittings off the sway bar mounts. It was this low for a track day but got left that way for a few months.

The rear was a little low in the pictures. Currently, I'm 24" fender to ground front and rear. Looking under the car I'm around 1 1/2" off the ground at the downpipe and the rear muffler (3" exhaust). I may raise my car to 25" all around... Still can't decide! It's a love / hate thing being this low.
