View Full Version : Just installed Neuspeed Race springs...

I installed Neuspeed Race springs on my 98.5 1.8tqms sedan this afternoon that I picked up from a friend. I only had time to do the rears before I ran out of light but when I set it back down on the ground, it wasn't any lower. The springs came off of his 1.8t avant; I know the springs for avants and sedans are generally different to compensate for the weight difference but according to Neuspeed's website these exact springs (#'s match) are for 1.8t's, 2.8's, avants and sedans and should drop it 2 inches. I know springs need a few days to settle but I didn't expect it to be back at stock height when I set it on the ground. So, will they actually settle that much to drop it a couple of inches or did Neuspeed.com screw up in their description in saying that these are for avants and sedans? TIA

There's really nothing to show, it's just sitting at stock height [:(]

Are the rear springs full seated?

CaSp3r9
03-31-2008, 11:10 PM
Yeah, I made sure they were properly seated before I reinstalled each assembly. Even if they weren't properly seated, it wouldn't account for the two inches higher than it's supposed to be sitting.

Part # is 55.02.25

Here's what it says on Neuspeed.com:

Notes
Fits A4 Quattro 1.8T and V6 Sedan and Avant models, 1996-2000. Lowers approx. 2.0 (F) & 2.0 (R). Photo is for illustration only. Actual color may vary by kit.

My initial thoughts were that the rear springs were Sport's and not the Race springs because there is a note saying that if you have OE sport suspension (which I have) they will not lower the car but...
1 - Mixing and matching springs doesn't make sense and isn't something the guy I got them from would do.
2- In the pictures on their site, the Race springs are shaped differently and have plastic coating around the upper coils whereas the Sport springs do not and my springs definitely have the plastic coating on the upper coils. WTF mate!?

That's cute that you think we're somehow telepathically connected to each other but the fact of the matter is that I have cameras in your house and can see that you're watching Super Bad, that's why I said it. [;)]

Do you have a sport a4? The 2 inches lower is 2 inches lower than the non sport a4, so if you have a sport a4 it will only lower it 1 inch. A4's also have a bit of a rake so the race springs in the rear will level out the car if you have a4 sport suspention springs in front. Like poopie said you'll see a difference once you install the front springs. My car is noticably lower with the race springs and bilstien struts in winter mode (top setting for the adjustment) than it was with stock sport suspention. My neuspeed race springs say Neuspeed race on them, even after a year of being on the car.

^yeah but I just looked at the car an hour ago and the rear is HIGH. If there is actually supposed to be rake in the rear, it sure doesn't show. I had H&R race on mine and you could see the difference from a mile away.

Got the fronts finished up last night and it looks great. However the rears are still pretty high, hopefully they'll settle some more with time. I'm going to install Bilstein's this summer and a friend of mine seems to think they'll help with lowering it some more, what do you guys think? If not, I'll just pick up a set of H&R Race springs since I know how a car with those sits and love it. I'll post pics in a little bit.

Wheel size has nothing to do with it. The tires should be the same diameter which means stance and gap should be the same.

CSHO1.8t
04-06-2008, 10:52 PM
That is, if the overall diameter of the 16s with tires are equal to a set of 19s w/tires. I guess you're right, you can only go so big before hitting your control arms. either way, look at the rear. wtf

i only have a 2 finger gap on all 4 corners. if u got the avant springs it should do that. but did u know that there are like 3 part numbers for race springs, i just checked it out on greedspeed.com

bloodstar57
04-08-2008, 10:31 AM
Stock sport struts.

Check the part numbers and make sure they are not for a 2.8; it could be the springs you have in the rear have a high spring rate.

04-08-2008, 02:12 PM
Bloody hell thats bad and I just looked up H&R race springs and the avant and saloon have different part number so I would say they do one spring for the rear and it don't work.

H&R Race springs all the way I think.

These springs DID come off of an avant so that is probably why it's riding so high. However, the part numbers on my springs match the ones on neuspeed.com and according to their site these exact springs are for all Quattro A4's whether it's a 1.8t, 2.8, sedan or avant. Guess I fucked up in not looking into it more.

Anyone have STaSIS Street Sports they wanna sell me?

Hey man, here are the pics I promised, these are Neuspeed Race Pn: 55.02.25 IIRC.
Believe it or not, these were on a 2.8 a4 before I bought them, I am running the same setup rite now, Bilstein shocks and Neuspeed race springs.

and yea no comments on stock ride height lol.

Yea that will do it avant spring is higher and your car doesn't have the weight needed to compress them.

BTW here is mine on Vogtland with s4 shock/struts

Accuse the fender damage will be fixed this weekend.

Has anyone read the thread? I think the point everyone is missing here is that the part numbers for the Avant and Sedan in this case are IDENTICAL. He checked them on Neuspeeds website.

So this would lead me to believe one of a few things

1.) Neuspeed fucked up their part number
2.) For some reason Neuspeed likes their cars lifted in the rear
3.) The springs need to settle about 2 inches (which wont happen)

that looks like my 2.8 with regular s4 suspension, Neuspeed race gives u the perfect drop and it rides awesome, just double check the part numbers before u buy or install something on ur car.
Will save u money and time, anyways Good luck casp3r.

I think it is a Neuspeed thing... My buddy and I both had MkII Jetta GLi's and both of us bought Neuspeed springs at the same time... Same part numbers and all... We put the springs on and my car dropped 1.75 inches all around whiles his was 2.5 all around... I have heard of other problems like this with Neuspeed springs... Just a thought... Doing some more research for ya... The Avant only weighs about 110 lbs more than the sedan... That STILL should make that much of a difference in ride height...
