working with:
-83mm JE pistons
-stock spec Corrillo rods
-ABA crank

The problem:

with the stroke of the ABA crank the piston is purtruding 3mm past the block. What in this equation is wrong? I was assured by the guys at 034 that the pistons were correct, but something is not. I need someone with experience to let me know what I missed. I will be contacting 034 when they open, but until then I need some advice from the gurus!

Did you get custom pistons with the pin moved up?

I was told that I did, but my question is this:

clarify: I have the ABA crank, which increases the stroke, so woulnd't adjusting the pistons to compensate for that offset that stroke and nullify the purpose of using that crank?

I'll try to get the part # off the JE box, its at the engine shop, but I'll contact them now.

Mike & Jacob, please chime in.

your screwed....just throw it out...into the trash can outside my house...and start over.

ok, I thought about it, and figure I just need the correct pistons with a different pin height....I compared them to stock and they are just about stock spec with different C/R. I need to call 034 when they open....this sucks, this is gonna set me back a couple weeks or so...

can you please send me the part number?

I would, but it just says custom order, I have the PO number and all the specs I could send you. give me a couple minutes

ok, please do that [up]

edit: also the rods specs...

That would result in a pretty high compression ratio...

Maybe they sent you the parts for the 16mm taller block? Something is definitely not right.

yea its either the rods or the pistons... its not the crank...

checked rod specs, they are 144mm stock spec as I suspected so the pin height on the pistons in incorrect, as I said before, they seem to be stock spec with an 83mm bore and a slightly different C/R

Are you sure the carillo's are not 159 mm ,may be they sent you 2.0l rods.
***edit*** postat the same time:)

posting the specs for those that can do the math...

JE pistons:
"custom order #1221"
bore: 3.268
Compression height: 1.286
Forging: 81M
Pin Diameter: 0.787
Pin Length: 2.250 in
Dish: -0.095
"VW 1.8L 1.8t APH"

I think the piston would be sitting higher then 3mm past the block deck if they were 159mm, it would be 15mm at that point.

Jon do you have pics of the bottom side of the JE pistons before you put them in?

mike i think the compression height is incorrect...

my comp height is 29.464mm and his is 32.664mm so theres your 3mm difference...

What in this equation is wrong?
You got pistons for the 86.4mm crank, not the 92.8mm crank.

I am on it.

let me guess again are you sure you have the right crank ? May be they sent you tdı crank which is 95.5 not 92.8 the differance is 2.7 mm :)

Then it would stick 1.35mm above the deck, not 3mm [;)]

lol 0 for 2 pro...

Isaam, should I call 034 or can we work it out? I'm assuming you have the power to be able to fix all this so I'll hold off on calling Dan or someone there...(FYI there is no treatening tone to this statement...it sounded like that when I read it to myself.)

Mike: I did not take any pics yet, I'm installing everything when I get the block back so I was going to start documenting everything then.

you are right ,so pass the crank option :)

I am on it,its a situation which can be easily rectified.
