Any suggestions on type of engine oil and brand. I have a B5 A4. I've tried a couple of brands, includind Amsoil, Mobil 1. I've had mostly 5W40 always, but went and tried 5W30 Royal Purple. The car runs good but I don't think I will stick with it. Anyway, what do you guys think?

Update: I would appreciete recommendations as well as WHY you like certain brand or type. Thank you!

Honestly, my best experience was with Amsoil 5W40. I liked the low temps and how the car felt. With 5W30 Royal Purple, the temps are higher a little bit. I don't know why. On the other hand, it runs nice. Need more suggestions, keep them coming!

Haha good. I was thinking that you have had your head buried in the sand not to know about the oil sludge problems when using dino oil.

I've been using Castrol Syntec 5W40 and then used Pentosin 5W40 and it has really low oil temps, and motor is really quiet. I have few bottles of Castrol so thats going back in next time. I'll have to try Elf soon.

And your point is? I never said anything about W meaning weight... I just simply stated that the owners manual will tell the correct weight of oil to use...
