I own a b7 s4 and i am in love with it. My neighbor and family friend Danny Mckenna, told me that it was time for my parents r8 to be serviced. So, since my parents are currently in Cabo, he asked me if i could drive it to his dealership. So of course i said yes. After a pleasant 45 minute drive i arrived to his dealership, and dropped off the r8. Now knowing that he is a neighbor, i assumed he was going to drive me home. But instead he said i have a surprise for you. I followed him around the building to find a black on black s5. He told me to drive it home, have fun, and not get pulled over. So i took it home, after driving around southern california for 3 hours. And all i can say is wow.
After driving both that and the s4 for a while, i can state in my OPINION i find the s5 to be a better driving experience. It feels like it accelerates quite a bit faster and the whole car feels much lighter. I also love the look of the coupe, and the feel of almost having no backseat. Feels much more racey, and more exotic. Also gets a lot more looks, those LEDs are BRIGHT!
so if you are deciding between the s5 and s4, do the right thing and pick the s5, so i can see more of these bad boys around.

now that's a NICE test drive .. not the 15 minutes I get from my dealer :)
I am extremely undecided between buying (next year) the S5 or the B8 S4. But I will wait for that ..

seems like a 45 min drive with an R8 would've been a little more interesting write up than a 3hr ride with the S5. But good to know your input. Can't wait for mine [headbang]

Well your S4 is Tip, correct? And the S5 still only comes in stick I believe, so that's what you drove? The feel of an auto vs a manual S4 is completely different also, but still I have heard that regardless the S5 is a completely different car.

I'm not saying one thing or another is going to happen, I'm saying it's ridiculous to say something like that about someone you don't even know. It's just unfair to him. I'd be pretty pissed if I were in exhausti's shoes and someone said something like that about me. I mean, basically, zeven13 just said "I think you're going to die. Stupid parents." That's definitely not his place to be saying that.
I'm not going to tell you I'm sure he'll be alright, but I'm definitely not going to put him down just because my parents didn't buy me the car I wanted as my first car. Just let him enjoy his awesome car, and share his experiences with us on the forum. He's here to be our friend, and tell us about his car, and people like zeven just sit here and put him down for it. It's just rude and immature, in my opinion. Keep it to yourself if you've got nothing positive to say about the post, because no matter what you say, his parents aren't going to read this and be like "Yeah, we're so naive, I guess we should just return his car and get him a civic instead.".

The point is IMO that certainly it doesn't take a R8 to get an inexperienced driver (and every 16 y/o is by definintion inexperienced) into an accident but it undoubtedly increases the odds. Which one of us at 16 had the maturity to resist testing such a cars capabilities? Not me. And which one of us at age 16 had enough experience on public roads to handle such a car expertly while testing its performance? Not me. Hence, although I do not begrudge any 16 y/o having a privileged upbringing I too think it is fairly irresponsible to allow any 16 y/o to drive such a car without me being with him. Ultimately, I AM responsible for what my 16 y/o does to himself and/or others while driving such a car. Call me an old fashioned parent type if you wish but I have successfully navigated the treacherous teen years three times now as a parent for whatever its worth.

Wow, how did this thread get here? Sorry I even commented earlier given this wonderfully mature response. At 25 I would have hoped you would have a somewhat more expanded vocabulary and maybe even consult a dictionary on occasion for spelling help so that the rest of us illiterate, unfortunate midwesterners could better understand the brilliance emanating from such a stellar Californian. I hope you are not claiming to be a spokesman for intelligent life in California because if you are then I am certain there is none.

there are many 16 year olds out there that are very mature.... just because you weren't one that doesn't mean you assume every other 16 year old is like you. I finished high school and was done first year of college by the time I was 16 and half and drove an Audi as my first car at that age.
Im now 21...graduated from college and race motorcycles on the track.....does that make me immature..... I think not my friend.... you would be surprised how many 16 year olds these days are mature and responsible.....hell you might have one of em at home...... dont be an ass-bag Dad and restrict them just because of what you think..... trust me I know how it feels..... because my Dad was like that..... and it sucks.
Second, don't go superimposing yourself and what you think on some random kid you know nothing about.... its not your territory to speak imo.... but that again is arguable...this is a public forum. At the same time I think I see that it can be difficult as a parent and congrats in raising three teenagers..... my parents raised four of us.... it wasn't easy, we always knew it and will never forget what they did for us.
At the same time my dad was a very difficult dad to deal with..... and I just wish parents would realize these days if you have a mature one on your hands.... give it a rest and let loose a bit on the kid...... and dont go around on forums saying so and so's kids gonna/might/can die for whatever reason.... Of course, most may not know how to drive. But some do. I know a kid (who's 20 now) that when he was 16, was a better driver than any adult I'd ever met, other than his dad. He had been driving shifter karts since he was like 6. I'm not sure when he started competitively, but I clearly remember him competing with 18 year olds when he was 12... and winning. Maybe it wasn't on public roads, but I've never met someone with so much car control. He's got a B7 S4 now [:D]. But I get what you're talking about. I'm not old or anything, but when I first got my license I can easily say I was a pretty big idiot. I learned quick as hell though, and cleaned up my act right away. I thought I was a pro race car driver [drive], but a really big mountain, a $1500 repair bill at the body shop, and a speeding ticket that caused me to lose my license for two months (because I was on a provisional license, not because the speeding ticket was so insane heh) taught me otherwise. We all live and learn. It's just more enjoyable in an S4 [:D].

Chill young man. I never said anyone was immature (other than the profanity laced illiterate response made earlier). Read my original post more carefully before going off half-cocked. All I said was that when it comes to driving on public roads where there are lots of erratic drivers to deal with, every 16 y/o is inexperienced even if like you they have lots of track time (congrats by the way on having fun and learning good driving skills on the track) and that putting any 16 y/o behind the wheel of a high end sports sedan increases the odds of something bad happening to him/her or others. As a parent (you might find out yourself one day) it is partially your responsibility to increase the odds of getting through those inexperienced driver years successfully and I doubt letting them drive a R8 alone helps much. Again I said nothing about this young man being irresponsible just because he is 16 but he is inexperienced at least off the track. Have you checked the death/injury statistics nationally for 16-19 y/o drivers lately. How many 16-25 dependant drivers have you had to pay car insurance for? I wonder why the rates are so high especially for us male drivers? Why do many states restrict 16-18 y/o drivers with passengers, cell phones, night driving etc? Probably in your opinion because only douche-bag parents (my bad "ass-bag") who don't have a life are making the rules--right? [:D] Do you think maybe even you have might gain a little more experience as you have teen kids and have the pleasure of dealing with these issues? I am not quite the restrictive asshole parent you might think[evilsmile]. My oldest son drove a A4 (smallest engine I could get), my daughter had a dressed up new VW bug (smallest engine I could get) and my youngest son has nice Jetta TDI (obviously tame engine). I really could care less what a 21 y/o thinks of anyone's parenting skills frankly especially one who at such a ripe age (heck you just acquired the right to legally drink) is telling anyone to get a life when they have just begun to live. Lighten up on your age tested advice giving. By the way I have no incredible success stories to tell about raising my kids--you made that up yourself again. I only said I successfully navigated the teen years without my kids getting hurt or hurting someone else--probably had more to do with them than me anyway. Oh finally this is a driver's forum and since this thread evolved into comments about driving it is entirely appropriate for anyone who drives to comment in it in a responsible way. Again more power to the fortunate 16 y/o that started this thread--I wish him nothing but the best in life hopefully with many driving thrills ahead.

Yeah, seriously. At the age of 18 I was completely and solely in charge of signing off helicopters safe for flight. I was a helicopter crewchief at 18 years old completely in charge of the mechanics, in-flight emergencies, the crew, weapons and all other non pilot crew members. I did this while flying at night in the desert under Night Vision goggles, manning the .50 Cal machine gun, teaching and supervising the other crew members who were also manning a 50cal machine gun.
By 19 I was a in-flight weapons instructor, Night systems instructor, and Certified maintenance inspector...that means when we change the complete drive system in a helicopter, I was the final person to look at it and call it GOOD. By 21 I was a Sgt running a shop of 35 Marines and 12 helicopters in Iraq, under mortar and heavy gun fire. While simultaneously training new crewchiefs in Iraq because we were so short handed, they sent us to war with only half of the required trained crew chiefs.
At the age of 21 I had done two full tours to Iraq, received multiple medals including my Combat Wings with 3 Silver Stars (silver is higher than gold, and 3 is the most stars you can be awarded) and 8 Air Medals for flights flown under heavy combat operations.
......what the fuck did you do by the time you were 21??? (..boomer..)
People are so quick to judge others based solely on age! You have no idea who this kid is. I mean shit!, he could be Mario Andretti's freaking kid and know how to drive a 200mph Indy car. But people gotta chime in and talk stupid shit just cause he's 16. I bet a 16 year old kid who has been driving for about a year and a half from Nebraska would be a way safer driver in a snow storm than a 30 year old that grew up in SoCal where it rains maybe 15 times a year.

I remember when I passed my test to receive my license many people frowned upon my father for letting me drive his brand new corvette around. I was only about 17 years old. Heck, I'm only 19 right now. I'd like to say that I was very mature driving the car and took great care of it. I don't think it's correct to just go around making assumptions on anyones driving skills whether he be 16 or 40 years of age. I've been in this kid's position before. All I can say is be careful man and you shouldn't have any problems. I'm only 19 and I don't think I'll ever get the chance to ride in an r8 let alone drive one. Many people on this forum won't ever get the opportunity. Enjoy it man. Don't let any of this bad parenting immature bullshit (for lack of a better term) get to you. Have fun doing your thing!

Like I said boomer I wont say anything more on the parenting thing..... I said what I felt was right and responded from what I interpreted from your posts... and I hold to that. period. But I thought I would point out..... 19 years is legal drinking here in BC, Canada... so your wrong on that one old man (you called me young man).[evilsmile]
Envy is a Really bad thing... thats all I have to say...

Yup, I'm sure the 17-19 year olds in here never race. They just need ecu modification chips and V8 sports engines for aesthetic purposes. [rolleyes]

Hey hey!
First of all, this thread got off topic fast, and second, i enjoy the comments on my irresponsible ways.
Btw, im 17...
wayyyy older than 16!
Lastly, I have a house in montana with an very open track on its property, i have been driving stick since i was 12, and i can fully handle myself behind the wheel. Not that it doesn't mean i will never been in an accident, all it means is that i have hopefully lowered the chance of me being one.

You my friend, are incredibly lucky. The fact that you can take all this criticism shows how mature you are compared to some of the people pointing fingers. It makes us 17 year olds look good. I'm just surprised this thread hasn't been locked because at this point its just getting personal.

Why is it just 17-19 year olds? What about 25-40 year olds with ecu modification chips and v8 sports engines? I guess they buy the modification chips and sports engines just because they feel like spending money. Everyone who buys a chip or big beefy v8 is buying it for one of two reasons, to go fast or to let everyone know they can go fast. So don't blame the 17-19 year old kid when 25-40 year olds purchase for the same reasons. That post was completely irrelevant. According to that post we should all be rolling around in 1.8l 130hp cars.
wow....I love how the jealous turn this into an argument.
Not going to lie 16 you are inexperienced but does not mean you are a bad driver.
I have seen people of all ages act like complete assholes, crash cars on perfect days, older people in their audis and bmws think they can just drive through snow like a clear day.
I learned how to drive stick on my uncles camaro ss at 13, at 15 I had a 67 FB with a 351 making 500HP, after getting T-Boned by a drunk driver I got a Volvo at 16, at 18 I got my A4, so yeah I guess you guys can say my parents were irresponsible for getting me a 67 Fastback with 500HP but I'm their kid not yours. I respected the ponies and drove that car great.
So, clif notes, when it comes down to it you can find shitty drivers all over the age bracket so stop trying to let your e-penis to grow.

This is a dumb thread, a kid posts up he likes the S5 more than the S4, and it becomes an age bashing thing, his opinions still relevant. Yes, with age, people mature, tastes become different, but as a hole, most would agree that the s5 is better to drive than a b7 s4.
As for the age thing, I started riding sports bikes when I was 18, and had a Gsx-r 750 before I was old enough to drink, an r8 doesn't hold a candle to how dangerous bikes are, was that bad parenting or a bad choice? It doesn't matter, because while I wasn't always the most responsible with the bike, it was my choice, my decision. And in all honesty, who on here WOULD say no if their parents had offered to buy them an s4 when they were his age? Nobody. Yep, I can admit it, I'm a bit jealous, I wish mine had, but they didn't lol! His parents/age aren't our problems, let the kid state his opinion, take it with a grain of salt if you have to, but don't hate him for being young.
