I browsed a couple of search pages.. It's my first time changing my oil in the Audi since I have owned the car, I would like to go fully synthetic.. what oil do you guys recommend? Also which weight 5w40?

There ya go sir. http://www.audiusa.com/etc/medialib/cms4imp/audi2/aoa/company/aoa-specific.Par.0023.File.pdf

I used Valvoline 5w30 I think it was last time but only because my oil light came on and got scared, so changed immediately at Valvoline. I plan on using Castrol Syntec 5w40 next time.

I just switched to mobil1 0w40, I was using Royal Purple 5w40 But switched cause I got tired of having to buy it online and have it shipped, since no one around me carries RP in 5w40.

use a real synthetic group IV basestock oil, i prefer elf excellium ldx 5w-40 because its readily available to me and for around 3.50 a quart since i buy 45L's at once...

I use Mobil 1 0w-40. Love it, change it every 3K, will use it until something better comes out.

[up]Yay! another group IV user. I've switched from using Motul motor/trans oil to Elf for a few oil changes. The verdict is im sticking with Elf products FTMFW!

Mobile 1 Syn, I've been using it for ~5 yrs. Always in stock, where I get my oil change done (not at the dealer). Elf, Motul, Amsoil ... are probably just as good if not better but not everyone will have them in stock. Just use whatever is available near you.

I'll have to do some reading, but it's really nice outside and I've got work to do on the ol' B5.
Thanks for the link.

and I still like my Mobil 1, and it's readily available. This town doesn't have anything except a haze of oil floating over it (BP refinery) and for the lack of better words a shady ass population.

ok, BUT, does that mean its a good oil? people here also like cold air intakes on their 1.8t's, even though the stock airbox makes just as much or more power depending on the CAI...

Actually the people on here who use it are pretty reliable, you're really the only person I've seen bashing it.

I don't believe mobil 1 makes a 5W-40, so 0W-40 is accepted by audi
if you want 5W-40 i think castol syntec makes it

royal purple is not a POA/group IV basestock oil... just because its running reliably, doesnt mean its the best...

just like the cold air intake thing i said before [;)]

Never said it was the best. I needed to change my oil immediately and didn't have time to search around 100 places for what you consider the best. I took the info I had and bought what I could.
