There was a post in the past about the S60. It should pop up in a search. I don't know of anyone here that runs one but several VW guys do. Check the 1.8t engine forum on the whoretex.

from gt28rs to t3s60 is a downgrade man... less power (although similar), slower spool (although both spool fast)... why do you want to move to the t series instead of the superior gt series?

you want to replace your gt28rs with it?

quick suggestion. don't!

T3S60s seem to be really cheap! Are they a better option than a GTRS Elim?

running a restrictive hotside and larger coldside is just a bandaid approach... i prefer a real, matched turbo...

elims do what they are advertised, make power and are cheap... but when a true upgraded turbo spools faster and makes more topend, it IS the better option, but more $$$

and the T3S60? would you consider it a good option for the money? compared to a GT2860RS. I think they can be had for under $500.

i wouldnt buy a used turbo for the life of me... like buying used tires or brakes... no way to document the life of them really [down]

id just like to add that the t3s60 needs an external wastegate and dump tube and for that money id just rather go gt28rs, as it is a superior turbo...

Id never switch out a 28rs for that. The gt28rs is a perfect turbo for the 1.8T all around. Its got power everywhere. Not the peak power of the bat setups, but throw enough boost at it and it is plenty for a good time.

only reason i wwas considering the switch was only due to the fact that my turbo is on its way from a prior incident and i can get the t3s60 for dirt. I was looking at what they make on some of the vws and they put down around 310 or so at the wheels was figuring about the same power as the 28rs

On some, the one you posted a link for was a internal wg. Just in case you forgot already.[:p]

The super 60 seems to be a down grade from even the 50 trim and the 50 trim cost less. The T3/60-1 flow twice as much air as the super 60(35 vs 61lbs) and lists for about the same price.

haha, the 60/48 T3 came stock on my last 3 cars.....2.3 turbo ford

i upgraded the hot side to .63 before i sold the mustang and bought the GTI

if you're getting a 60/63 T3 you might as well get a holset hy35, they are monsters but they spool just as fast as a T3....and they love 20+psi, a k04 would literally fit inside a holset

Plenty of people here running turbos with 4" inlets. Big move into the GT30's on the A4's and a few people running GT35r size turbos. This summer I am looking at having a twin scroll manifold done which should spool up pretty quick for people wanting to run a GT30r.

The T3S60 is old technology. The newer tech like Garrett's ball bearing GT series or Borg Warner's extended tips will make more power sooner and as such are much better suited for a small displacement engine in a relatively heavy car.
