I have a 1997 a4 2.8 5 speed what are some of the signs that you are going to need to replace the timing belt? I'm trying to be precautious so it doesn't just sneak up on me? Can anyone help give any ideas.

Usually the signs show up and then the belt goes pretty soon... They include squeeling of the timing belt due to seized up pully, or rattling from a bad tensioner... I would just go ahead and do the belt... I have a few parts for the 30V motor that MAY fit the 12V... I will look into it and let you know... I am trying to sell these parts CHEAP...

if you can see the crank lines wearing through the belt you know it's probably time for it to be changed.
