often when i boost at lower speeds 30-60 mph with the radio off i can here a strange wooshing sound.. (i dont mean the turbo wistle) allmost sounds like a wwoohhsssssss or Khhssssssss while boosting over 10 psi..like air coming out of a tire sound.. is that normal? or does it mean turbo is going out ? sounds like boost coming out somewhere.. but hopefully im just imaganing that :) maybe it's the airbox sound sucking air ?? (car seems to run strong and it boosts somewhere between 18-19 psi

ok.. hopefully just a hose soemwhere.. and not the turbo.. it sounds like a tire leaking at full boost.. must be a leak then somewhere i think.. here in my town there is no real good car mechanics..ad the stealership is 1.5 hours drive from here + their rates.. so i probably do some searching on how to pressure test it myselves.. thanks though FUEGO :) now i can sleep in peace :)

very easy to diy. There are many writeups some of which in the B5 diy forum

has this sound occured before your mods? Some of the mods(s) in your sig may have triggered this sound. (Neuspeed turbo inlet hose)

i think it was there before the inlet hose.. and yes that was one of my latest mods.. i got that put on when i got my head rebuild.. it sounds like its coming from the area in front of the passenger side.. (close to turbo) but the pressure test will tell me right ?

The theory behind the pressure test is that in the sealed intake system you should be able to apply a certain amount of pressure (say 20psi) and the intake system will hold that amount (20psi). All its going to tell you is if theres a leak (pressure will drop). The next step would be to try and pinpoint that leak. You could do this with a few methods. Try some soapy water in a spray bottle, pressure test and look for bubbles (from leaking air). Also if you have a smoke machine you could hook it up to the intake and see where its coming out.

got boost.

umm you sure its not your DV? it might not be a problem but just your DV making sounds after you shift at full boost....[headbang] you said the sound was coming from the front of the passenger side near your turbo and thats where your DV is.

Do you have an aftermarket k&N filter or air intake? Did u mod the airbox at all?

stock airbox with K&N in there... no im not sure if it is the DV.. but the pressure test would tell me right ?

k&ns can make a lot of noise, did the problem happen around the same time as the filter was changed?

whoah. can a k&n drop in filter really change the sound? :| I doubt a 710n will give you that pssh. Maybe it's related to your neuspeed tip

TIP + new air filter + DV = make that noise. Keep in mind that your DV is a valve body that just moves air, and your new turbo inlet hose increases flow and sound. Also, your high-flow filter is going to aid in it.

Unless you're feeling a difference, it's nothing to worry about. Hell, my very first upgrade was a DV, before my car was even chipped, and I heard that noise at full boost (LOL @ < 8PSI "FULL" BOOST). It's nothing to worry about.

If you like it, and want to make it louder, get a cone filter. Then you'll REALLY hear it ;)

You guys the pressure sound is simply the turbo sucking in air, there is nothing wrong with anything!!

i don't think you have a problem either. I had recently installed an inlet pipe and that whooosh had gotten more significant, i was at the track too and I started to hear it more. still boosting great, even better actually. i wouldn't worry, although it does sound like a bov.
