why?... heres a few reasons i found that the cap has given trouble for:

b5
b6
b7
a4
a6
a8
tt
.
.
.
etc

sometimes people would try to search the whole forum, but would like to throw one of those keywords because the answers aren't always in the same forum as the automobile in question.

Allowing only two letters in searches makes it far too broad. The vBulletin search function is bad enough as it is, pair that with a large database like we have, and lines need to be drawn. We may be able to play around with the settings and whatnot though, see if we can't make further compromises.

i agree this is annoying. can we turn on wild cards or "" type searches? makes it hard to not get yelled at for posting the same thing that someone else posted last week.

Using "Advanced Search" and narrowing your searches down to the proper forum(s) is currently your best method of dealing with this issue.

yeah the thing is sometimes the answers are on cross forums.. eg I search for B5 S4 brake rotors... the answer be in B6 or B5 forums... possibly for sale even... sorry for being a pain

I'm not sure why it isn't working for you. I just did the same search using "S4* rear bumper" and it searched for S4. I was using the advanced search. Is that what you're using?

I'm actually hoping that we can soon remove the general/basic search, and default to advanced search only.

And a period (.) is not a character, it's a punctuation mark.

if i recall correctly, a few months back, we never had the basic feature. the advanced search is actually pretty powerful
