I'm thinking about a motor swap.. I have the 1.8 in it now. What would you guys recommend putting in it? stick w/ the 1.8? move to the 2.8? or any other motors (was really thinkin about the 6 for more hp)

Just if anyone has any opinion/experience on this I would appreciate it!

I would stick with the 1.8t motor if your looking for more power, you can chip the 1.8 and gain 30hp or if you want more power just upgrade turbo and so on...

That wasn't even funny.

A swap in an A4 is kind of expensive and pointless. You have a great motor so if you want to be quicker just dump some money into it. [up]

Someone should've told him to go with the 2.8 and hooked him up with a donor/shop. It'd be kinda funny if a rich kid dropped that much money on a swap... in a sick twisted way lol

Well if you are serious about getting a engine swap you got to go all out and be original!! So dont go with a 2.8 and if you want a 2.7tt just buy a S4.

If you really want an engine swap, call 034 and talk to them about the VR6-T setup. It will be >$10k though.

If you want to get the most out of your engine that you have right now, look into BAT or BT setups. 350-600+awhp should be enough to keep you excited. [:p]

if your 1.8T is running well, look into getting it chipped

giacusa.com

the chip will give you the same power as a 2.8 V6

if you still don't have enough power after a chip, then you can installa a bigger turbo...

there is a search function up at the top, you should use it before askin questions, or you are goin to get flamed bigtime

I am a noob as well, so I figured I'd try and point you in a semi-right direction

I apologize for my earlier post - there is a little history behind it. Anyway, a motor swap is no trivial task and the fact remains that a chipped 1.8t will have more power than the 2.8 right off the bat. With a few more upgrades you will have a dramatic power increase over stock.

Do some searching, check the stickied threads and basically just hang out and read some of the posts out there - you'll have plenty of ideas in no time.

if you are truly looking for help:

stick with the 1.8t, it will give the much better power than a 2.8 If your just looking to make more power than you have now, as a couple people have said, chip it, it'll cost $500 and you'll love it. That will inevitably lead to more and more performance parts, and before you know it you'll have way too much money invested into your car and you'll never be happy with the performance (meaning you'll always want more)...but 1.8 is the way to go, easy power!
