Spoke to my dealer and some of the reps at the Chicago Auto Show. Looks like my order wouldn't be delivered till August-ish. In that case I'd simply switch it to an '09 order. The dealer and rep told me that if there is a price increase they would most likely not honor the price I have on my '08. Sorry but I placed my order in October and was told that delivery would be Jan/Feb which was ok, then I was ok when the dealer told me end of March. But this is just getting ridiculous. I've resisted going for a 335 or the new M3 for the better styling and sound of the S5 as well as the unique factor. But in the end they could have simply come out and said in October when I placed my order that it would be a year before delivery due to limited production and demand. So I think it's time to cancel the order and go with someone else. 335 fully loaded sounds appealing or go for an M3 which I can squeeze into line for a May delivery.

My brother just picked up a fully loaded 335xi. It looks and sounds great, has a better lease rate, but after driving an A5 I would wait for the S5.

Personally, I find the 335 coupe to be a much better looking car. It also sounds great, and is fast as hell. With some small mods, it is faster than the new M3.

Nah I loved the look of the S5, that's half of what pulled me to it. Then the V8 sound capped it off as well as the beautiful interior. The 335 to me looked better than most others, but not that cool flare like the S5. No matter what car I ever get I can admit better or worse in the other. 335 for handling, gas milage, and price...S5 for the looks, the sound, and interior in my mind. It's nothing personal against Audi I really dug the S5 and have been waiting eagerly since October (I have a Dodge Grand Caravan as a second car), so now it's time to just go for it I think. Though I'll say that it has been nice that as the delays roll in, the Audi dealer has kept me informed and not tried to sugar coat it.

Why not buy an existing one from a dealer ? I spoke to a dealer in Indy who had a nice one for sale. Not that far from Chicago.

some small mods don't make it faster than the new M3. But it is a very fast car. I didn't like the size of the cockpit when I test drove it. But it sure was fun to drive.

Well I was in line to buy the demo's in the area since that's the color combo I wanted. But I was looking to get it without tech and without nav. All the dealer cars are fully loaded. I think that in a few years (I tend to keep my cars 3-4 years) I can look back into either the S5 or RS5.

You're in the minority but you can't argue with personal opinion about the look......

I hear ya. But if you are talking an RS5 then wait for sure. That should be a truly amazing car.

Cancelled my S5 order. Priced out a 335...that looks to be the best choice right now. Sit out the first year M3 and decide in 2-3 years as to what car I want next. 335 still offers some serious performance so it's not like it's really a big step down. $46k to get tons of features and options. For now it's a great deal...next time will have to take a look again at Audi for sure.

Holy crap, this story could have been written by me. I'm in the same boat and talked to the guys at the auto show and got the same story as you, the only difference is my dealer hasn't stayed in contact with me.
I also have considered the 335 route but just can't get over the looks. I will probably wait until spring and look into used RS4's, they are creeping into the mid to high $50's now.

If you put the looks side by side, I pick the 335 over the RS4, but I'm biased towards the 2 doors. Actually, in the right color combo, the 335 isn't that bad. The rear end really bugged me, but the front I always thought looked ok on the BMW's. In the end, it's not forever. The S5 will be here 3 years from now when I'm looking for my next car and then it might have other options in it...like getting tech package with no nav? :)
As for the looks I'll tell you this, which is what I told myself twice. Once when I bought my race motorcycle (used) and it was custom painted a purple color that I didn't like off the bat...I realized that once I got used to the bike and screamed past others to the finish line...the color or looks didn't really matter that much [race] Now with the 335, yes it's a bit more spartan with the interior and the exterior. But in the end the drive really is nice and you save a bit of cash. Not to mention you simply accept the looks of anything eventually. Considering you sit inside the car 99% of the time and all you see is the color of the seats, radio, and gauges...the rear being uglier isn't the end of the world for me.
As a final suggestion I did think about picking up something like a 8 year old Corvette to roll around in for the summer when I'm not on a motorcycle, but decided I didn't want the hassle of buying it then having to sell it again as summer ends and the market dies. Perhaps getting a older muscle car for a few months is what you should consider?

I'm in a '06 350Z right now so I really don't "need" to do anything. I fell in love w/ the S5. If I don't get one I will probably just sit tight, maybe buy a truck for future winters as a second vehicle. I do love the RS4's and now that they are approaching affordable I wouldn't mind getting in one.
If the S5 comes through before August I'll just stick with it, any later and I will probably pass on it. Audi sure knows how to take the joy out of the car buying experience that's for sure.

More power to you, Bro. Everyone has their preferences and opinions. I honestly think that you'll be happy with either vehicle.
I have to ask you this question though:
Are you buying the 335 because you think that it's better than the S5 or are you buying it because you're pissed with Audi (you're dealer) because you can't get it sooner? It sounds like to me that you are justifying your purchase of the 335 because you're pissed. [confused]

I'm just going to wait for the RS5 depending on pricing or maybe get a used RS4...I really like the 335xi and with Chip & Exhaust you are at RS4 power level, and better mileage.

Welcome, brother!
Now get your 335 and put $1k in mods to run low 12's.
I'm making 360whp/400wtq with $1500 in mods.
You won't regret it.

Do tell?
Is this chip and exhaust? Do you need fatter tires to get the power down?

Better tires are always a good idea, no matter the drivetrain.

Vishnu Procede Module is plug and play and comes with an exhuast for 1500 is what he's talking about. Upgrading tires to semi slicks will help a lot since there is so much torque. I see 335i's flying around everywhere...literally...these guys seem to just floor their cars everywhere. I would wait out for the S5. Before you know it, everybody will expect a 335i to be modified and if it isn't it will be disappointing; whereas, the S5 people will just be delighted to see it. Stock for stock S5 wins, and you'd still be cool for having a stock S5.

i never really paid attention to the s5, after reading this thread and researching it i want one.. bad. An a5 with a turbo 4cylinder would be fine too. That is just the best looking car I have ever seen for the price, seriously reminds me of an R8 combined with some kind of aston martin rear in the back. Wait for the s5!!!

No, I'm actually not pissed at all. The 335 is a better handling car and the S5 is better style, luxury, and sound. So when we say settle, we're talking in general 2 of the nicest cars out there on the market. Figure I'll save a couple bucks and still enjoy the 335 which I just spoke to the dealer and got for $1200 over invoice (seems to be pretty fair price from confirming on the forums). So I'm settling in terms of style and uniqueness for sure. But with the S5 I was also settling in terms of performance and disliking the soft steering which I was willing to overlook. If you ask me today, S5 would be my first choice and 335 a close second. And second wins out because I can have that car in a month rather than in December. So it's no hard feelings at all, and chances are that if I see an S5 driving down the street in Chicago I might follow you home and hit you upside the head and steal your car anyway :)

In that case, I'm happy for you. My kin folk live up in Chi-Town. I may drive up and check you out.
But you can't go wrong with either vehicle. It's just a matter of preference. Atleast you're not one of these "Jackasses" who come on our forum and flames the hell out of the S5 and tries to "up-play" the 335.
Good Luck, dude!

Kinda tough to play up the 335 when I was set and placed an order for an S5 in October :)
