OK so here's what's going on.

My ABS kicks in at random times, and keeps kicking in for upwards of 10 seconds at a time. Usually after a fairly abrupt stop.

BUT.

No ABS light. Good connections. ABS works when it should.

Any ideas? The local brake shops and Euro shops are all at a loss for the cause of this.

Maybe a short in your ABS sensors telling the car you're slipping when you're not? I have no idea man.

If that was the case then when the ECU does the start up check it would report that and the ABS light would kick on. I can't remember if VAG com does anything with ABS. If so check it out.

My car's previous owner was quite the moron it seems, so is it possible the light was disabled via VAG-COM? I ordered my cable earlier today, so it'll take me a week to confirm anything with it.

The dealer was rather shady, but it passed my favorite mechanic's inspection flawlessly so I'm lost.

Haha maybe he took the lightbulb out?

edit-
I don't think the ABS would work at all if that was the case, actually.

Yeah, everything leads back to the light. This has driven me crazy for so long!

It's 2:20 AM. Good thing I don't sleep.

Wheel speed sensors?

wouldn't that throw a light though?

I guess I get to check that in a week when my VAG-COM comes in.

Your issue seems more sporadic, but still fairly similar to mine. My ABS kicks in at low speeds. Vag-Com showed that the front driver's side wheel speed is about 2-3km off from the other wheels.

The driver's side ABS sensor and rebuilt the ABS module but it still kicks in prematurely at low speeds.
I was told it might be the ABS tone ring, but it looks like I need to pull the spindle off to inspect it.

I might just have the tone rings replaced when I do the wheel bearings.

Would a severely torn CV boot have any relation to this?

Well, you can use VAG to inspect the wheel sensors and see how they're reading. Perhaps you've got some dirt or grime in the sensors and they aren't reading correctly.

that's my guess. is it a green and purple box type thing on a cable?

cause I found one cut in half under my car today.

Yes those would be the wires. If that one is cut that would be the reason for the issue you are having.

Ah.

Next question is how the hell that could've seemingly ripped in half if its under my car?
