Usually with a 8.5" wheel the usual is +35 offset with a 225/40/18. In your case, i would use a spacer and put out the wheel 10mm and run a 225/40/18 unless you like the sunken in look.

i was told that 225s on an 8.5" wheel would result in stretch, and that 235s were a better fit- any suggestions?

not to threadjack, but i'm in the market for new tires as well, and a 225/40/18 is the 'proper' size, but i don't want any stretch... (running v708s, btw)

We'd recommend 235/40-18

225's are a bit stretched. You should go with a 235 if you want it to look normal. With a +45 your wheel might look a bit sunken in meaning it will sit inside the wheel well a bit and not as flush.

Those are great tires... but they are not going to last many miles at all. 200 tread wear and are horrible in rain if you ever plan on using them in that condition that is. I use 615's to track with and they are really sticky and stand up to the beating until they get really hot and i have also almost killed myself only going about 60mph on the freeway while it was lightly raining and the roads were wet.

We have had good reviews on the new BFG Super Sport (all season), and would expect around 30K miles of durability. Yokohama AVID W4S have also done well.
