I've finally gotten fed up with not having a GPS so I bought the Tom Tom ONE; I also have a Beltronics 995 or w/e its called. The two wires leading up to my windshield is an eyesore.

My question is, if I get both of these hardwired through firedog or something local, will it effect my warrenty (3 year lease)?

I called my dealer and the "warrenty guru" will not be in until monday.

i think it would depend on the dealer and where the firedog people install it, usually they use the power from the map light or near it and i dont think it would void a warranty as long as you took it out if there was a problem

I had a ton of wiring done on my Nissan Xterra through the electrical system and Nissan never said anything about it when it came to warranty work. However, this is an Audi, and I'm not sure how strict the dealers are. however, I don't think doing some simple hard wiring into the electrical system would void any warranty...but you should check first.

I highly doubt that it will have an affect on your warranty. People get after market things installed in their cars all the time (nav, radar detectors, back up cameras, subs etc..) and our service department always supports it.. It may be dealer specific but I'm pretty sure that you won't run into a problem.

I dont think it will have any effect on your warranty as long as it doesnt take power from any audi power sources already installed...better to have the "warranty guru" verify that though

it should not void anything... unless the wiring cause a fire in your car which is possible if firedog fuck up.... but wiring accessory items like those are fairly easy. Make sure the power line is isolated from the ground and make sure whatever they tap into has enough current to power your devices.

Also... some electrical taps shut off when your car shuts off (i.e. Homelink system, i think) ... and some taps stay on even if your car is off (radio, interior lights, etc.). I hate shutting off the radar everytime I leave the car... just something to think about.
