I own a 2001 a4 1.8tQ. I've been noticing a gas smell after i park it and shut it off in my garage. Initially it doesnt smell, but when i come back out after like 5 minutes i can smell gas. It's strongest when i put my head closer to the bottom. BTW it's not super strong but it is smellable. Also there are no visable leaks. The car has almost 80,000 miles on it so could it just be because it's an older car?

is it possible you're smelling vapors from the crank case? I would inspect your PCV system hoses carefully.

I know that Audis burn rich in the winter so when the weather gets really cold, you're car will reak of gasoline especially if the heat is on. Has it been very cold in WA?

Here in NJ, the temp dropped below 30 degrees a little while back and the car smelled like gas. How long have you had the car? Has this ever happened before?

But that's normal if it's due to the cold. It will pass.

jack up your car, get a lighter, light it, and move it around under your car and see if anything catches. that should do it.

can you smell it inside the car? if so, maybe you should pull back the trunk liner. open the fuel pump service lid and see if there is fuel inside. if so use this write up to reaplace fuel pump seal http://www.audiworld.com/tech/eng81.shtml
