Okay folks. I'm looking at picking up a used ECU/Chip for my a4. I've done some searching and I'm somewhat confused.

Most people have 5spd/manuals here and I have a Tip. So the chances of me finding a tip ECU are pretty low.

So I understand you can "recode" the ECU via Vagcom to go from manual to tip (and from FWD to AWD). After doing some reading, how do you know which ECUs are re-codable? I've read some don't allow you to recode. Is there a list of "known" able and un-able to recode?

I don't want to buy an ECU and find out I can't recode it.

My car is a '99.5 AWD Tip. My understanding the ECUs from all 97-99s SHOULD work as long as the ECU is recoded. Which ECUs are codeable and which are not? [confused]

Thanks!

Well, I know the 557P can be recoded, as I have done it myself.
