Is there any mild cams out there that I can use with a GT2871r elim? I'm looking for some mild cams to maybe put it. I have my whole engine apart for all kinds of gaskets and maintenance and it would be a nice time to throw in some cams [wrench]

Duration 245 / 262°
Lift 8.25 / 9.95mm

Revolver cams

indeed, 1013651 is the mildest, 1013653 is the next up and 1013652 is the largest grind... those are CAT cams btw

what is this street grind? Just curious...

how much the timing gets advanced and what the lift of the cam is..street grind would be on the mild side

now on the revolver website it says it expands the tq/hp throughout the rpm range. Where and how much are you expecting to get out of this with the elim setup? Im just wondering since you are able to drop them in with stock components.

**Update

Installed the revolver cams and there is a noticable power gain throughout the entire rpm range. The car also sounds a bit deeper when idling and the exhaust note has a little more bass to it

well i needed to do my timing chain tensioner gasket and needed to pull the cam out so i decided to drop in a set while i was in there. The cams i'm running are simple drop in cams and require no tune or other parts to make them run. I also did titanium valve springs and retainers and new seals. Also replaced the head gasket, valve cover gasket, oil cooler, pcv system, and rear coolant flange [wrench]

So if I were to get my car tuned for the stock cams on my 2.0t project, think I should retune it for the cams later on, or would they be more of a "bolt on" like yours...I will have a very specific tune, so Im assuming not, but that would be nice

it all depends on what cams you go with and what type of grind they are. The revolver ones i have are the street grind and are very mild so no tune is necessary. If you go with an aggressive cam i would suggest doing valve springs since the lift will normally be higher.

thats badass, i feel like cams are slightly unexplored with the 1.8t community. Everyone just puts on a bigger turbo, and even though their torque curves do move to the right, the curves are the same basic shape, with a taper near the top. cams are a pretty cool mod.

so you've gained power throughout the rev band? not just on the top end?

do you feel like cams are useless for people with K03/4 turbos? or would this set of revolvers open up anyones 1.8t?

down low feels almost the same as it did before but mid-range and top-end definitely feel a bit better. The power band seems to have shifted a little to the right but it feels much smoother but that also may be from all the other stuff that was broke or leaking that i fixed while i was in there

lol yes for useless? or yes for power?

it would be pointless to put cams on a k03 or k04 setup

mike-2ptzero
01-23-2008, 01:47 PM
lol yes for useless? or yes for power?

Yes to useless. This is because aftermarket cams have a higher lift allowing for more air flow and since the K03/K04 cant move enough air to max out the stock lift then it is pretty pointless.

theres a ton of info on cams out there... there will also be a comprehensive back to back test of many cams coming soon... you just have to know where to look... try the vortex or elitedubs QED forum... the stickies in that forum are VERY helpful...

bobs not doing them [:p]...

bob has already sent the cams to the person who is doing the test... that person had problems two days ago with a chaffed cam sensor, hence the hold back... i already have some of the results from some of the cams, but im not telling [:p]

Yea, My Shrick cams are useless on my K-04....Oh wait, they open and close the valves...Hmmm
As for power gains/changes..They are very miner and the money could def be used elsewhere.
