Just thought I would help out if anyone was having similar problems. I have the APR chip and thought it should be more agressive. I thought I had a slight boost leak and searched everywhere. I would run 16 psi consistantly and spike maybe around 18 psi. I looked at my oil the other day and noticed it was pretty dark and thin. I new I was do for an oil change so I took it in and switched this time to Royal Purple seeing how I usually use Mobil 1. I had no time to do it myself so yes I payed someone. I used Royal Purple 5w 40 and I also put a bottle of Lucas Boosted in a full tank of 91 oct because our fuel is so sh***y over here in Cali. The car runs like new again, so smooth. I spike now at 21-22 psi and hold long and steady at 18-19 psi, I missed her and now she is back. Maybe this can help but from now on I am using Royal Purple. The vehicle has 83000 miles on it and mods are in my sig.[:D][drive][hail]

both royal purple AND mobil 1 are NOT really sythetics... they are group III basestock which comes from the ground, as opposed to true sythetics which are group IV and are 100% man made... read up at: bobistheoilguy.com [up]

Firstly not all synthetic oil is really synthetic. The old adage you get what you pay for really applies when it comes to oil. So whoever popped up with the statement price is the only concern couldn't be more wrong.

Synthetics can be broadly broken down into three types:
Group III Hydrocracked:- Derived from normal mineral oil, technically not synthetic, but owing to lawyers getting involved can be sold as such. Lots of it on the market. Not bad stuff, but it's still Dino oil at the end of the day.

Group IV Polyaphaolefins or POA's:- The real deal, made in the lab by guys in white coats. Mobil 1 is an example or *used* to be - they now mix in some hydrocracked basestock.

Group V Polyol Esters:- The Rolls Royce of the synthetic world. Provides even better lubrication than POA's. Expensive but worth it if you're caning the engine. Motul 300V is the stuff I use

If you want to know the actual advantage/disadvantage of each group. There's a good post on the subject here

I'll let you guys argue about Mobil One vs. Amsoil, but a little hint. I believe Amsoil is a Group V oil...

I use Elf Excellium NF. Basically I think your looking for any oil that meets 502.00/505.00 or VAG approved.

This was run on Mobil 1 since new. Oil changes every 10k miles, filter change every 5k.

317ssayzarc Where do you buy your oil? And how much are we talking when you say you buy in bulk? Cause that's a pretty good price.

the shop i work at uses ocean state oil as our supplier for oil... i ordered the minimum amount for a shipment and that was 3 cases containing 5 5L bottles...

thats 15 oil changes... i own two cars and drive 600 miles a week plus my dads car, so its no problem using it... plus you can sell the excess below market value and make money even!

hahahahaha.. i hope ur kidding.. not like castrol got sued a couple years ago because they were marketing regular dino oil as sythetic... thats why M1 got such a bad wrap cuz some of their stuff is group III

BTW M1 0W-40 is completely group IV basestock.. so its not as bad as everyone thinks..

however i do use ELF excelium LDX
